Genius Loci seems to attract very special people! Guests who leave their marks on other guests and on us. It is not rare for guests to write emails after their stays asking about other guests they met during their stay. This was especially the case of dear little Madeline and her beautiful mother!
I have rarely seen such a beautiful mother-daughter relationship-such joy in being together-such sharing of travels and experiences.
And I don't think I have ever seen such a bright, affectionate, personable, mature, well-mannered, energetic, outgoing but NEVER interfering, sophisticated (in the best sense), sensitive, observant, attentive, happy four-year-old!
She was everyone's favorite, the mascot of the inn, the joy of all guests. She would grace the breakfast tables with wild flowers, she would shower us all with hugs and kisses, she would tell us about her days' adventures, commenting in detail on what she saw or what impressed her.
She listened with interest and concentration to adult conversation with her ever-smiling face and good disposition.
Her exceptional mother took this remarkable, sensitive photo of Madeline reaching to light a candle in a church. Darling Madeline and her beautiful mother left us all with warm memories of their stay.

Oh, she is exquisite! No wonder everyone was enchanted. And what fantastic photos, they really capture the spirit you so eloquently describe in words.
