Maurizio and I drove up to dinner in Montisi where "Palma's in the Kitchen" with Brad at Gail's lovely villa. When we first walked in, we found the tireless couple (elegant even when they cook) at work preparing a magnificent spread of food for the group which was spending a week in this idyllic location.

With Maurizio, Palma and Brad in the lovely kitchen of the villa

Spanish broom ablaze on the drive to Montisi, through magical Montepulciano and Pienza and near the famous towns of Torrita di Siena, Castelmuzio, San Giovanni d'Asso, San Quirico d'Orcia, Trequanda...all names which evoke the best of Tuscany.

numerous "hill-hamlets" dot the countryside near Montisi
The evening light on the hills and in the garden, the fun food preparation and beautiful presentation, meeting other Slow Travelers and members of Gail's group, enjoying the delicious food, wines and conversation soon gave way to an evening of music in the living room: a fine vocalist and guitarist.

music to end a magical evening
A magical evening before an effortless drive home on a balmy Italian evening. Thank you Gail, Palma and Brad for the much appreciated invitation and for the good time.

Oh, Mary, you make me so homesick for lovely Tuscany and the hills we love so much. What a wonderful evening for all of you. Sometimes the longing brings tears and I have them now.
