THE HISTORY OF THE UMBRIAN TESSUTO RUSTICO AND EMBROIDERY

Marta and Clara, the heart and soul of Brozzetti Textiles, organized a lovely afternoon highlighting and demonstrating the centuries-old history and the weaving techniques of the "tessuto rustico" in rural Umbria. This dynamic mother-daughter team also put together an outstanding exhibition of the diverse but, fortunately on-going, glorious tradition of embroidery in the region. The international reputation of prestigious quality and design of fourth generation Brozzetti Textiles brought together attendees from Japan, China, Russia and most of the other European countries, not to mention a considerable number from North America!

an array of the absolutely gorgeous, exceptionally designed and executed hand- woven textiles: art, handicraft, tradition, pride, research...and exemplary dedication to excellence!

The pleasant and educational afternoon ended merrily in multi-lingual conversation among the international participants AND with the traditional Umbria "torcolo" of humble Umbrian rural tradition accompanied by an excellent Vin Santo from the Lungarotti winery!

A world of thanks to Marta and Clara for their dedication to keeping these traditions alive and flourishing, for relentlessly pursuing excellence and refinement in a world which too often moves in the opposite direction.

I love the traditional lace embroidery. Such wonderful and skilled craft. I hope they keep the tradition going. I really like your posts and learn so much. Between you and Leslie (from Kaleidoscope) I am itching to visit Italy again.

Mary, this must have been a wonderful exhibition. I was so impressed when I met Marta a few weeks ago, and visited her workshop.

Their textiles are extraordinary, for their beauty but also for the history and the heart that goes into these unique works.

Your pictures are lovely, thanks for this!

Awesome topic !Awesome blog! I will definitely be back.
