Michael ON HIS 32ND BIRTHDAY with our precious little Virgola in the garden

with Mom after lunch

picking lilacs...

and roses...

and beautiful foliage for the table
Today is Michael's 32nd birthday - a very special day. As I planned his birthday luncheon, I incorporated some of his favorite things into the menu: fried artichoke hearts and olive ascolane, parmigiana di melanzane and caramel topped cheese cake. Memories of childhood birthday parties, of hailstorms, of tender affection, of teenage years, of the MANY years when he was abroad...all flooded my mind.
Michael is our second child - seven years younger than Mar - so I have been a mother for 39 years! I can barely remember my life "before". My beloved children - enormous blessings for which I am deeply grateful!

Happy Birthday to Michael! It sounds like you made a wonderful lunch, Mary -- and what lovely photos. Your garden is beautiful.
I hope you all had a wonderful day!

Now it's belated birthday wishes for Michael and his mom, but thanks for sharing that - I feel the same way about my childrens' birthdays, and my youngest will turn 24 on May 8, coming up soon.

Mary, this made me feel teary! It's so true no matter how old our children are their birthdays bring days of reflection...of young mothers and their babies and all the hopes and dreams we have for our children when they are born. It is a huge blessing which I am reminded of each year on their birthday. How fortunate a gift a child is and the wonders and blessings to be a mom. He is a very handsome young man! I'm sure he loves you very much.
