The best laid plans for today went awry: while Mar was busy all day with her conference, I had planned on a full day at the National Gallery. I had been once many years ago but was looking forward to another leisure visit. But my arthritic knee was too painful after these several days of straining it to do anything at all. I knew I needed to stay off of it.
So I rested it most of the day, going down to listen to the live harp and to enjoy some tea in the elegant Palm Court Bar AND to have a pleasant chat with the lovely Assistant to the Manager.
The next day, since Mar was still involved with her conference and my knee was a bit better, I ventured out on my own to window shop at the famous department stores: Jenners and Harvey Nichols.

I was also looking for a "certain something" for Mar, a surprise, so I won't say more. I spent an entire lovely morning in New Town.

During a short afternoon break, Mar scooted back and joined me in the Palm Court for tea. On this last day I also discovered a beautiful restroom next to the Palm Court Bar at the hotel with Limoges wash basins and a huge composition of the most beautifully scented Easter lilies.

The next morning we had room service bring our breakfast in at 3 AM. We walked the short distance in full daylight (love the long days of light in the north) to take the 4 AM Airport Shuttle bus to catch our 6 AM flight to Rome.

As we ate our delightful and beautifully served breakfast, we admired the same gorgeous view which had kept us such good company from our room throughout the week. Edinburgh! Magnificent Edinburgh!

Hi Mary, beautiful photos of your last few days in Edinburgh. Love the pretty water basins and flowers in the ladies room. It looks and sounds like you had a wonderful time in this Magnificent city and spending time with your daughter. It was very fun seeing Edinburgh through your eyes. I think will enjoy seeing it too.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write about your experiences and sharing them along with your beautiful photos.

My stars, a 3 A.M. wakeup call would be painful!! You must have been home by lunch (and ready for a rest!)
I'm sorry that your knee problems curtailed some of your Edinburgh plans, but you certainly seemed to have had a lovely 'Plan B!' Great photos and I love that delightful washroom -- I don't believe I knew Limoges did washbasins! But then I don't know much about porcelain. Very interesting.
