If it is true that every region has its own variety of the classic sweets, it is also true that every household has its own treasured personal variety as well. The Tacconi family is no exception. Their version of castagnole /zeppoli is different than most I have ever tasted, even in Umbria. Plus, over the years, I have modified the recipe, adjusting it to my personal preference.

The result is somewhere inbetween castagnole and a zeppoli.
Ever since Michael was a young boy, I made a special dinner and a dessert for Milan's special matches - especially for Champions League games. The special dinner was often homemade hamburgers and in the Carnevale period - castagnole. Today, which is also Martedì Grasso is no exception since Milan plays an important Champions League game tonight.
Castagnole are also one of Mar's favorite seasonal sweets. It has always seemed strange to me that something so simple, of such basic ingredients, can be so delicious.
Even now that Michael lives on his own at the Inn, the tradition of a special sweet lives on:
