Today is a special day - it is Mar's birthday.

She got back very late last night from Barbados and today we connected by live chat on the computer after yet another glorious walk in the garden on this gorgeous spring day. We looked together (only 5000 miles apart) at the 350 photos she had just downloaded on Flickr, commenting them as they paraded by on an exciting slide show. The joy of modern technology, which keeps us close across the miles and makes sharing so immediate and easy.
With the raging riot of spring buds, blooms and wildflowers, with my love of macro photography and armed with my wonderful new camera, it has become increasingly difficult to keep a good walking pace: I can't resist stopping to photograph exquisite details of magnificent colors, textures and forms.

moss with tiny hair-like spring blades/shoots on an antique terracotta brick

a brightly colored, miniscule wildflower

Little-Miss-Tag-Along, our adorable Virgola, making garden rounds with me (as she does every day) and checking her territory

the intricate beauty of one of the most-common, lowliest wildflowers

one of 30 stately Italian cipressi we planted in the garden 35 years ago (only six feet tall at the time!) - reaching tall and proudly to the sky

the spectacular new shoots and tight buds of the raging photinia bush

another beautiful type of moss
beautiful geometry

Too often we look but don't see . May I always have the ability...and desire, to be able to see with new eyes the normal beauty which surrounds me in the garden.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARICA. YOU WERE WITH ME TODAY IN THE GARDEN!

Your garden is so beautiful, Mary, you must be so proud of it!
And Virgola must be very busy these days, patrolling her territory. I hope she doesn't meet any rodents!

And on a separate note, I hope that Mar had a wonderful birthday. Her photos from her trip must be fantastic!
