A Winelover's Wanderings

Last year I wrote about my 2007 birthday on April 20th. My niece Patti was born on April 21st, the day after my birthday, and I went to Santa Cruz to celebrate with her. So, this was the first time I had actually been in Santa Cruz on 4/20.

As I reported in my blog post last year, my sister and I attended the annual 420 event on the UC Santa Cruz campus.

So today I decided to check and see what was happening this year at UC Santa Cruz. Here is what Fox News reported, from the school's point of view, of course.

And a TV news report about the school's plans to discourage the gathering.

It looks like the turnout was about 1,000, down from about 2,000 in 2009. There were way more people than that in 2007 when I was there - we thought as many as 10,000. So, I guess the school is whittling down the participation with their campus access rules. Here is the newspaper story.
