The weather gods are smiling down on us - Rain was originally predicted, but a gorgeous day dawned for our tour of the Venice lagoon.
We met our guide Andrea and the boat captain on a little canal-side calle (we had to switch the location because the trash boat refused to move), and off we went.

Our first destination was Murano where we cruised down Murano's main canal past lots of glass factories like this one.

Lots of great views.

Then off to Burano - it's about half an hour north of Murano. We didn't stop there but still saw the colorful houses Burano is known for.

Torcello was on my to-do list because of its historical significance, and we docked there to see their main church, S. Maria Assunta.

And here I am in the Hun chair.

On the way home we stopped in the middle of nowhere to have a picnic on the boat in the lagoon. Here is our captain preparing the food - local sausage and cheese and good bread and (of course) wine. Yummy! And what a great view.

Kim, your glass is empty!

Shannon needs some wine too!

Almost back to Venice now. This is how the captain steers the boat - standing up.

What a beautiful day out on the lagoon!

Hi Nancy, this looks like such a fun day. Your lagoon tour sounds wonderful and it's cool that you visited Torcello. It was my favorite island. It's interesting that the boat captain steers his boat standing up like the gondoliers.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experiences. I've been really enjoying reading your posts and seeing your great photos (great photo of you on the Hun chair).
Keep on having fun and hope you have more clear sunny days.

They need to stand up to steer the boat so they can see where the shallow water is and avoid it. A couple of times we had to shift our positions to the front of the boat b/c the water was too shallow. :)
