The Louvre & Montmartre with Michael Osman

Today was another jam-packed day with Michael Osman. Our goal was to tour Le Louvre and visit Montmartre, and we accomplished both!

Michael met us at our apartment and we headed over to Le Louvre. We passed Square de la Tour Saint-Jacques, a tower standing by itself.

And we saw this colorful mosaic along the way.

Entering Place du Le Louvre and seeing the pyramid is pretty thrilling.

After entering the Louvre, we traveled along some of the medieval walls - here's Michael showing us the way.

The main entrance hall. I was surprised at how much light there was to illuminate the art. I had expected the Louvre to be a pretty dark place.

I think this is Hercules, but I will check to make sure.

Here's Bill with Venus de Milo.

And a couple of other pieces that struck my fancy.

And here I am with Mona Lisa in the background. Probably the most popular piece at the Louvre (and maybe in the world), Mona is surrounded by bullet-proof glass to protect her from the crowds that come to see her.

Here are the only two Michelangelos in the Louvre.

And a sculpture of Mary Magdalene.

Time for lunch! We went to nearby Cafe Le Nemours on Place Colette (across the street from the Comedie Francais) and had a wonderful lunch. I had a yummy Chevre Quiche, and Bill had a great Cassoulet.

Michael took pity on our poor feet, and we took the bus up to Montmartre. Here are some posters by Toulouse-Lautrec, which immortalized Paris in the 20's.

A couple of photos (not very good ones) of Sacre-Coeur.

The view from the front of Sacre-Coeur.

And, if you look closely, you can see the Eiffel Tower in the distance.

What a wonderful day! Michael was so informative and eager to show us as much as we could absorb. Being an artist himself, Michael's insight into the art and its history was really great. Thank you, Michael!

Wonderful but I am sure exhausting. You covered a lot in one day. Do you collapse at night? Still impressed with your doing blog entries! Keep having fun.
