Saturday, we celebrated Brad's birthday all day, and had a combined birthday dinner. I LOVE birthdays, and Brad's began with cards, a small gift and coffee!

He was quite excited (more about his new job, and leaving for Italy on Friday than about his new age...).


We had a relaxing afternoon in the pool and then went to Wally's Desert Turtle for dinner.


Wally's is a lovely restaurant in Rancho Mirage. We began the "let's get in the mood for Italy" (like we ever leave it) with a wonderful chilled bottle of Roero Arneis (a light Piemonte white). Brad had a sweetbreads starter, and I had a wedge salad with blue cheese dressing.



Brad enjoyed a venison entree, and I ordered a filet with onion sauce.


For dessert, Brad had a chocolate lava cake. I helped him with the ice cream and delicious pistachio/raspberry sauce on the side of the plate!


After dinner, we lingered over a second pot of coffee on the twinkle light brick patio, as if we were in an Italian piazza. Can you tell we had a lovely evening?
