Waking up in Italy

One of the simple pleasures (and there are SO many...) of being in Italy, is just waking up in the morning! Even in my pre-caffinated state we call "stunnato" in my mother's dialect, I love early morning. The light, the mist or sfumato, sometimes an incredible sunrise, are all possibilities. So is the smell of the espresso and fresh bread or pastry.

I remember my first morning at Diana's:

It was a perfect Piemonte sunrise!

Of course, mornings are lovely in Positano:

in Umbria:

in Capri:

in Venice:

Tuscany:

and finally, this shot from our room at Genius Loci!

See what you miss when you sleep in? As I've said before, I can sleep at home! But afternoon NAPS are good!

Just 31 more sleeps, and I'll wake up on Lake Como!

Palma-Great photos! I can't wait to go back to Italy and see more sunrises.

Thanks, Palma, for including us in your "rose" of lovely wake-ups in Italy with your beautiful photograph taken from the window of your room last summer! And, Brad, your NICE comment on the inn, a few weeks ago, was noticed and much appreciated.

Hugs...and try to stay cool.

Beautiful photos! I also love walking around in a city that is waking up; streets being cleaned, people hurrying to work, bakeries and bars opening...

Thank you for sharing these photos. As a night person, I often miss those beautiful morning views. I wish it was not such torture to get up early. They are all beautiful, but I love the last one the best.

Palma,
What a great post! I love to wake up in Italy and stare out the window taking it all in while my husband sleeps.

Sufficiently jealous!

These are beautiful photos, Palma -- and you are definitely inspiring me to wake up earlier on my trip to Italy next month (I love saying that, "my trip...next month!")

I usually don't get up until about 8:30 on vacation, but I'm really going to try hard this time to get up at the crack of dawn and catch a few sunrises myself! Thanks for this inspiration.
