My first thought was our 2006 visit to Ferrara!
Here is the moat at Castello Estense. It is a brick building in the center of town with four towers, and is surrounded by a moat. The castle was built in 1385. I didn't know moats had sprinkler fountains!

I couldn't get into this page the other day (problem with slow trav blogs). I love your Ferrara photos! I have stayed there twice. I am thinking of either Parma or Ferrara as a daytrip this summer. Can't decide (been to Parma twice also). I love both places.
