Today, I spent a relaxing morning and afternoon. I had coffee and did some grocery shopping this morning in preparation for Jerry and Sandi's visit. I have been talking about my neighborhood friends:
Claudio e Marco, i due baristi che sono bravi e molti gentili:
io con Marco la mattina:
Mara, la signore che vende la frutta e verdure:
Tuesday afternoon, I hung out at my apartment, making restaurant reservations for the next few busy days, and doing a little studying. I ran a couple of errands, bought Jerry a phone card and 2 bus tickets (he will be using Brad's Italian cell), and eventually went to to sit in a piazza and have a drink, and read my book.
Brad is doing fine, still has plenty of food, but misses me. Ego has stopped walking around the house looking for me, but sometimes whines. Brad calls me every day at 5pm Italy time.
For dinner, I met my teacher, Andrea, and his wife, Daniela, at one of my favorite restaurants in Bologna, Al Sangiovese. It is right by the Hotel San Mamolo, and the owner, Rocco, is from Calabria. We had a lovely dinner. Daniela and I have much in common, and keep saying we are "como sorella" (like long lost sisters). We spoke in Italian of so many things: our families, differences between Italy and the U.S., cooking, etc. Speaking of cooking...food photos!
Our first courses:
Andrea had "spaghetti al torchio al sapore mediterraneo (hand made fresh pasta with tomatoes and mozzarella and basil.
Daniela had Strossapreti con piselli, prosciutto e porcini:
I had my FAVORITE Gramigna con salsiccia (first time this trip):
For our second courses, Daniela had an interesting salad with asparagus, green beans, cheese, raw fennel and bacon:
Andrea enjoyed his tagliata with arugula, parmigiano and balsamico.
I had a wonderful veal dish with asparagus:
It was a really fun evening. We met at 8 and left the restaurant at 11!
Rocco has a very special pasta dish I will try at our ST GTG next week. Let's just say it involves fresh BURRATA!
