It was a very sad day last week when we said good-bye to our very sweet dog, Ego.
He had a long, happy life with us for almost 18 years. We miss him very much, and it is very quiet around the house. Ego was always a "mama's boy" and followed me everywhere like a little shadow. He was a sweet, and loving friend and companion. We think he has joined his brother, Id, in doggie heaven, and while Id is teaching windsurfing and other "must have balance" water sports, Ego is the swimming and diving instructor. He LOVED the pool, and just like his mom, swimming was Ego's favorite exercise. We had a lot in common: blonde, friendly, love to eat and take naps, affectionate... there were many happy years with my little buddy.
Ego's last moments were at home. He was licking my face, moments before his peaceful eternal asleep began in my arms.

I'm so sorry. Pets leave a huge, silent hole in our lives once they move on. Though I wouldn't trade in the love they give, it still hurts.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the loss of Ego. It is amazing how much joy and pleasure our sweet animals give us, and how painful it when they cross the Rainbow Bridge. How nice it is to think of him frolicking with Id, both young and healthy again.

Dear Palma,
I've been following your blog for several weeks and I've read most of your archived posts. Along with the entertainment and information, I've enjoyed hearing about Ego...I'm a dog lover, too. I'm very sorry to hear your sad news. It's easy to see from these two pictures how much joy he brought into your lives.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved Ego. There are just no adequate words to describe the pain and hole left in your hearts, but I do hope with some time your house will no longer feel so quiet and lonely and that your sweet memories will bring smiles to your faces instead of tears.

What an amazing life for a dog! 18 years is a long time. I'm so sorry for your loss of Ego. Losing a pet is devastating. My Riley is gone almost 3 years and it's still not the same around the house. My condolences to you and Brad. I'll make sure Riley is looking out for Ego at the Rainbow Bridge.

I'm so sorry to hear about Ego, Palma. It's one of the hardest things to experience. We've been down that road a few times and I never think I want another pet. Eventually we do, and we fall in love all over again. Hugs to you both.

Dear Palma & Brad,
I just read today about your dear, sweet Ego. Like others, I felt like I knew him because of your posts and photos of him over the years. I know you'll miss him very much but you know that he will always be with you :-) You may find yourself tripping over "nothing" in the kitchen...well, it's Ego, letting you know he's still with you! woof woof :D
I love that you named a pie after him!!
Lots of love and great big hugs!!!

Weep not for me though I am gone into that gentle night.
Grieve if you will, but not for long upon my soul's sweet flight.
I am at peace, my soul's at rest. There is no need for tears.
For with your love I was so blessed for all those many years.

Palma, I just saw this. I am so sad to hear that Ego is no longer with you. I have such happy memories of my time there with you and Ego in the pool and knew he was such a wonderful and special little fellow. I am happy to hear you have a new canine fellow in your life now! I never thought I'd bring another cat into my life after losing Oola and then Woody found me in Guatemala. Love is love. They find us when they're ready for us, no? I hope you three are savoring your life together!
