After our last trip, Brad and I were discussing what new parts of Italy we want to explore next. We somehow ended up writing a list of Italian cities and small towns we have visited. We decided the criteria for listing a place was that we STOPPED there for either a meal or to see a local site, and that we spent at least a couple hours or more in the place. (No driving through towns would count.)
Next we marked places we have been two or more times with stars. Here is the long list that surprised us!

Where have YOU been?

So, Roma and San Gimignano win the "contest" (so far) with five visits! I know Bologna and Venezia will catch up in 2011.
I am clueless about Southern Italy - are any of these towns there?

Wow, very cool! You have been so many places! I think the only areas where I have you beat is Trentino-Alto Adige and Puglia... I have been to a lot of the same places that you have, except that I haven't spent that much time in Tuscany or Piemonte.
