This was the third time I have flown to Italy without Brad. I began my journey on my birthday (which was kind of weird to spend it on a plane or three...), and arrived on Friday, May 13. I had plenty of sleep on my flights to Minneapolis, Amsterdam and finally Venice, so I was awake and excited.
I took the Alilaguna to Fondamente Nove and was greeted by Shannon, Kim and Nancy, who generously schlepped my luggage to our apartment for the night. I didn't know we were going up 5 flights of stairs! It was the night before our GrapeHops tour's official start. Here is the view from our apartment's balcony:

After a brief rest and freshening up, we were off to an amazing dinner at La Cantina with Andrea 1. I will call him Andrea 1, as we kept meeting nice looking men named Andrea!

We were hungry, so we ordered a seafood platter, and a meat platter. OMG! They were both fabulous. Shrimp, turbot, red mullet, two kinds of scallops and potatoes followed by wonderful pork, lamb and grilled veggies!

Many glasses of wine completed our meal! See the big happy smiles all around?

After dinner, we moved to an outdoor table for more wine, coffee and we were joined by another Slow Traveler, and Venice resident, Nan. What a great way to begin 8 days in Venice!
