Sunday was an easy day. We enjoyed the delicious breakfast at Porta San Mamolo:
After breakfast we returned our rental car to the Bologna airport, and came back to hang out at Piazza Santo Stefano. In my opinion, this is THE place to be around noon on a Sunday! The piazza was calm when we arrived at 11:30, and grabbed a table at the busy bar.
Soon, someone showed up with balloons, and the piazza filled with kids, families and people out for Sunday pranzo.
We enjoyed our beverages, then picked up water and wine for our guests' fridges.
We had a gelato instead of lunch at La Sorbetteria. YUM I had NO gelato in Venice in anticipation of THIS gelato, and was not disappointed. It is as good as I remembered!
We came back and relaxed in our own little corner of Hotel Porta San Mamolo: Room 402 with its own little terrace.
I sketched this while I was in Bologna, and painted it in Varenna:
We had a relaxing afternoon, and Jan and Les arrived around 4p.m.. While they unpacked, we had a couple of glasses of wine around the corner, then met them before dinner.
We walked only two blocks for dinner at Trattoria Trebbi. The pasta was great! Pumpkin tortelloni for Brad and green macaroni with spicy sausage sauce for me.
It is great to be with friends in Bologna! (The blur is from the wine, not the camera!)
We also shared tagliata with radicchio.
After "tucking in" Jan and Les for the night with their jet lag, we discovered that the bar directly across the street, Le Mura, had a great white wine we liked from Sicily: Grecanico! A new tradition was started for the "tour guide's nightcap"!
