I love fun little details for entertaining. At a restaurant, I recently saw a great idea on a way to serve both butter and olive oil for dipping along side bread.
Start with a small container that is shallow. Soften butter (unsalted) to room temp and spread in container so butter is flush with top. Chill.

Scoop out 1, 2, or even three indentations with a melon scoop or espresso spoon.
Chill again.

Just before serving bread, pour a little olive oil into indentation. Try a couple different flavors. I added peperocino (red chili flakes) to one, and used a garlic-parmigiano dipping oil in the other. Try a basil or rosemary infused oil. Lastly, sprinkle top of butter with a colored sea salt or cracked pink or black pepper. (I used pink salt, citrus salt and pepper.) Your guests and dip OR spread!
