We decided to celebrate our 11th anniversary Saturday night (just a day late) with dinner at La Locandiera. I had called from home for a reservation, and we were warmly greeted by the owner as, "Palma di California". There is a simple but charming dining room with a vaulted brick ceiling, and the place was hopping on a Saturday night!

We decided on antipasti and grilled meat, but little did we know how much food would show up at our table! Here are the antipasti (MORE than enough for a meal with nothing else!):

The antipasti included, prosciutto, coppa, pecorino, fresh ricotta, fried Ascoli stuffed olives, friend zucchini blossoms, fried pastry cream, rolled and stuffed eggplant, an assortment of bruschetta, stuffed zucchini and stuffed fried dough, and a barley salad with corn! Yes, we were stuffed before our grilled lamb and tagliata arrived!

We definitely needed an after dinner walk! Again, Ascoli's passegiata was in full form with what seemed like the whole population of Ascoli wandering from Piazza Popolo to Piazza Arringo and back! We ended up at a cafe in Piazza Arringo, and by midnight, with some coffee for me and grappa for Brad, we even managed to sample the complementary caramel and whipped cream dessert we were given. It was a lovely anniversary evening.

Well, that is the most amazing food event yet. But the trip is young. Those antipasti! They ALL look so good. And then grilled lamb! Thanks again, Palma; this is turning into one of the fun points of my day: what did they eat today?
Yrs, Robert
