We Began in Bologna

Arriving in Bologna on 10-8 was like going home. We are so familiar with this wonderful city, we feel like we are in our second home when we are there. After picking up our car and a quick 15 drive into the center, we were warmly welcomed by all of our friends at Hotel Porta San Mamolo. We had an easy first night with drinks at one of our neighborhood bars, and dinner at Al Sangiovese. A couple more glasses of wine before bedtime at our favorite late night spot, and we settled into our Jr. Suite.(We booked the suite instead of our regular favorite room, as Federico would be joining us on Saturday.)

The next morning after one of my favorite hotel breakfasts in all of Italy, we headed to Piazza Maggiore, where we found a Mortadella Festival going on, did some shopping, and visited the market.

After an afternoon nap, we had drinks in the piazza, then walked to Merlo, another favorite, for pasta with guanciale for me and papardelle with cinghiale for Brad. It was an easy, fun day!

Cathy:

Reading about your adventures is like reading Under the Tuscan Sun -- only with fabulous pictures! Love it!

susan from virginia:

Everything is so lovely! Thank you for sharing!

PatU:

Is Beppe still rockin' it in the piazza?

Nina Sgriccia:

What a great trip you have had. The opportunity to visit with your 'children's" families is wonderful. We can't wait to read about the whole trip on your return. We are especially interested in hearing about your time in Le Marche and Ascoli Piceno. We spent a week there in September, renting a great apartment and enjoying the city and region. Have a safe trip home.
Ciao,
Nina in Michigan

I'm dying to go back to Bologna! Thanks for the memories.
