Hard weekend of training- 3 events coming up

I managed to do 28 miles of training this weekend all on trails in the Santa Monica Mountains.
Saturday was 8 miles in Temescal canyon. In my hiking boots, it was with my running club the Santa Monica Mountain goats.

Sunday I ran alone from Will Rodgers State park up and over the Mountains to Trippit ranch in Topanga Canyon. 20 miles with several thousand feet of uphill. It was a beautiful day. Post run meal most of a large pizza.

Upcoming events- Club run Death Valley Marathon course. The course runs through Titus canyon with views across the desert and over to the local mountains. 2500 feet of gain in the first half follwed by 5000 of down in the 2nd half.

2 weeks later- Old goat 50K (31 miles) in the Cleveland National forest 21 miles east of San Juan Capistrano. Also a very hilly course, 6000 feet of gain. I love the races put on by Baz the RD, they are always fun and I tend to see the same people every time.

Last but not least 3 weeks later- One of my favorite races this will be my 10th, the Wild Wild West 50K.In Lone Pine,Ca. It is a famous location for western movies which are often shot in the Alabama hills. John Wayne among other famous actors shot movies here, the Sierras doubled as the "pyranees" in the movie Gladiator. Another trail race with the first 3 miles a hill from 4500 to 6700 feet!

Below are some Photos on the wild West Marathon course, Nice!

Kathy (Trekcapri):

Wow! You're really putting in the miles. I once did a 10K Trail Run in Temecula and actually enjoyed it a lot. The only concern I had was the footing on some of the uneven spots along the trail! Other than that, I can see the appeal.

I had never heard of the Wild West Race. Nice photos!

Kim:

Robert, how hot does it get on these courses(especially the ones that look like desert)?

How fast do you do these runs?

Beautiful shots! I have to laugh, though: when I read about this, my training for a 5K seems rather insignificant! But I guess I have to start somewhere...
