Before my trip to Italy last month, I had said that I wanted to try to get out of bed earlier while I was on vacation, to catch a few Italian sunrises.
While I was staying at Genius Loci Country Inn, which is owned by Mary’s family and sits in the hills above Bevagna, I set my alarm for 5 a.m. one morning to catch this sunrise over the fields.
Okay, that’s not exactly a great record of early rising! But during my first week of vacation, when I was attending a workshop on Umbria textiles at Giudetta Brozzetti in Perugia, I did get up each day at about 6, so I would have time for coffee and to walk to the workshop.
One morning, I stepped out on my balcony to get a sunrise shot, but I really was facing too far north to get rays.
Still, this little rose bush was on my balcony and I thought it was lovely in the morning light.
Returning to Bevagna and Genius Loci, I have to say how much I enjoyed staying there. Mary and her son Michael, who manages the Inn, are just delightful. They were kind enough to give me one of their best rooms, a loft, during my stay. Which made it a bit hard to get up and out in the morning!!!
But Mary’s daughter Marica had kindly offered to go with me several times to Bevagna’s remarkable festival, the Mercato delle Gaite, so that kept me moving.
I’ll have much more to say about this amazing event soon!

Hi Sandra, great photos. The landscapes and your rose looks beautiful in the morning light. The clouds in that second photo looks cool too. Mornings are my favorite time of the day. Your room at Genius Loci looks really beautiful too. So nicely decorated with lots of light.

Thanks, Kathy! Once I'm up, I love mornings. It's just that initial jolt when the alarm goes off that I hate.
Annie, Genius Loci really is lovely -- elegant AND cozy.

I would say that 5 am is VERY early in the morning and would definitely fall into the record of early rising category - or at least for me! :)
What a lovely room Mary gave you at Genius Loci! Another place I would be thrilled to call home with the beautiful views in the morning.
