I've arrived in Rome! I have been here 24 hours and still haven't had a gelato. Perhaps this evening, there is a reportedly a great place not far from my apartment in the Monti neighbourhood.
Today I revisited nearby churches I haven't gotten to spend much time in before, especially the magnificent Santa Maria Maggiore and St. Peter in Chains where crowds gather to see Michelangelo's sculpture of Moses.
On this stay, in my new neighbourhood, I'll be trying out new restaurants, shops, and this new gelateria Ciuri Cirui, which is also a pasticceria siciliana and comes highly recommended by Katie Parla .
Yum!

Oh MY, that looks good! Back here in Canada's Cap, it's turned coldish once again, so I won't indulge in one just yet, either. I'm sure yours will be better! Your plans sound divine, wish I were there! Keep us posted...

Hi Sandra, I'm glad to read that you've arrived safe and sound in Rome and how wonderful that you've already seen a couple of amazing churches already. Sounds like a wonderful first day, with gelato still to look forward to.
Thank you so much for taking the time to give us vicarious travelers a treat. Enjoy your gelato and keep on having fun.

Thanks everyone! I'm taking a little break right now, icing my sore knee and getting ready for tonight's visit to the Vatican museums. Should be an adventure!

Bentornata a Roma!
For a wonderful gelato experience, don't miss the tartufo or "Death by Chocolate" at Tre Scalini in Piazza Navona.

Sandra, you made it! How was the Yotel? Take care of your knee, you have lots of walking ahead of you. See you in less than three weeks.

If you have a chance, pop into Sta. Prassede near Sta. Maria Maggiore. It has a beautiful gem-like chapel covered with mosaics. Buon viaggio from a fellow Italophile!

Thanks for the tip, Barbara.
Hi Jane, the Yotel experiment was a success -- I'll do a review and post it soon. See you in Umbria!
