225 Magazine's cover story in May was about Baton Rougeans' brushes with fame. I got caught in the flak! Read the issue and threw it away without even noticing that's me (okay, you need a magniying glass), until someone pointed it out last week. This photo must have been taken while they were shooting some scenes from The Badge in 2001 a couple of doors down from our old house. Not a good movie, alas, but it was exciting having the shoot go on in the 'hood. BBT had a very nice car, and when the high school kids walked by on their way home after school he got cookies from the craft truck for them. Angelina Jolie showed up a couple of times. Also BBT petted Scout.
Speaking of movies, I have all my fingers crossed about Studio City on the West Bank. Ironic that the tax credits and incentives promised for this venue are now waffling in the name of "responsibility to the citizens" when Governor Blanco & co were willing to shell out bazillions in incentives for the steel mill we lost to Alabama (and they are most welcome to it, IMHO).
Okay, I'm being selfish. We'd be about 5 miles as the crow flies from a huge film studio. Aside from future "gotcha" moments, there'd be work for interesting people, including my students. Generally, it's a green industry, which would be a refreshing change for this part of the world. Here's our neighbor at Grey Gardens, for instance: Placid Oil. Not complaining--just marking.
In other news, a pack of coyotes surrounded Scout, our golden, early in the morning a few days ago. Luckily older brother dog Beckett came and got me from the porch, and when I got out back shouting and jumping up and down scared them away, but I do not think they meant Scout any good. There were at least four of them. All dog outings are escorted and monitored now, and Gary's laying in ammo. Hope it doesn't come to that. I hear them yodeling out there at night--unearthly sound.
Funny how out in the country we feel at GGLA, but if I crane my head just so while lying in bed, and the foliage is in the right state, I can see the state capitol building.
