Make it rain, Tom, make it rain

We watched a Benigni flick tonight, La Tigre e la neve. Not great, but Gary and I just love Roberto, especially his bit in the cab in Night on Earth. The huge treat and surprise was Tom Waits doing You Can Never Hold Back Spring in the opening and recurrent dream sequence. Of course they worked together all the way back in Down By Law--that whole Jarmusch-y crowd, I dig them all to pieces. Weird though; I had just been listening to the song not an hour before we started the film, and there it, and Tom, was.

I have a pretty big Tom obsession, for going on 20 years now. whoa, make that 25--27? The old stuff, the new stuff--Rain Dogs will always be my favorite, but he just continues to grow and change and experiment. But all the while, he's himself with a vengeance.

No one can make it rain like Tom.
