Spent a good bit of this afternoon sitting at the gate aboard the first flight. Some weather in Memphis was tying up air traffic and we could not take off. So we sat and sat, and I called Northwest. When I finally got through, the agent told us "no way" we would make the flight to Amsterdam, it was leaving on time, and it was the last international flight out of Memphis. She advised "persuading the pilot" to let us get out if we hadn't left the gate. So we did. That was pretty weird. A nice employee swore to get the one bag we had checked back off. Then we went down to the ticket agent where they could not do much for us. We could go to Chicago on American at 2 PM tomorrow, then to blah blah blah, etc. A manager showed up. He didn't like me--one of those misogynist types. He would talk to Jim, but not me. To me he said, "You are lucky I am waiving the fee since you are the one who got off the plane." When I said I was advised to do just that, he said "Nobody would every say that." Blah blah blah, I went outside to call Gary and Jim dealt with it. We got on the same flights tomorrow, and better seats, but I'm still pretty miffed since we lost a whole day in Copenhagen, plus a day's rent. I just checked and the flight to Amsterdam has now also been delayed, so we might have made it. Maybe not. The Memphis flight got in 10 minutes before the Amsterdam one was supposed to leave, so I doubt it. I don't know, I'm just trying to figure out what to do with myself for 24 hours--contacting rental agent, trying to cut losses. I did get my suitcase back, at least. And the dogs welcomed me home as if I had really been gone for awhile.
The phone is fixed! I will try to be of good cheer.
