power please stay on

I can't believe we still have electricity, but I should shut up before I jinx it.
The wind is whipping around harder. I'm upstairs looking at the tall treetops toss around--there was just a big old gust, strongest yet. I believe the big dead branch on one of the live oaks is about to give way. I guess Gustav would be doing us a favor since it needed to be trimmed away. I suppose we have saved on tree-trimming by letting nature do it, but I wish we had gotten our act together and had the trimming done this summer. The renovation project just seemed to take every bit of energy and capital we could muster. Yardwork suffered.

This sounds sick but I am actually looking forward to taking my yellow cart around and picking up sticks and branches tomorrow. Tidying thus after a storm seems to conclude it, wrap it up, put it away.

Most of the pears we couldn't get to earlier are now on the ground. We had our first big "whump" which turned out to be the plastic bin for the bird food that lives on the porch. It is now weighted down with a cast iron bunny.

I hope all is well!! I have been following your experience. Sounds like the damage was not as bad. How was it in your area? The tornadoes sound pretty scary!

How do you keep internet when the electricity goes out? I might need to look into that the next time we have a storm. Do you hook your internet router up to the generator?
