Here is how my painting is progressing. Today I worked alot more on it and got a call from someone that has reserved first choice just from seeing the photo that I posted earlier.
It has happend to me before to sell paintings while I am still working on them. One I sold twice in the sense that three people wanted it. I said that the painting I was copying was already sold. I was repainting one of my paintings but adding lemons and taking out the figs when another peson came by and ordered the same painting from me. That was cool but kind of boring to do the same one three times.
Today my new studio mate was not there. I took advantage in ripping down the plastic that was separating the space in half and of playing loud music all day. This new studio mate was so nice and kind before moving in but has all of a sudden become terribly territorial now that they have moved in. They are setting all of these limitations on me. I can handle that the music bothers them but that they take the side with two walls of windows and then put up curtains to block the light is not cool. It actually pisses me off big time. I like my side because I have two huge walls.
I expect that they will freak out on me tomorrow.

Angie, How on earth does your studio mate think you can paint without any natural light?!?!?!
Good for your for tearing down the divider.

Fantastic to see your work in progress - thanks. (I hope you'll post a photo of the finished painting as well.)
Hopefully your new studio mate will get over the urge to hang curtains that block off the light, how dreary that must make your side.

Thanks for posting a new photo of the painting! I feel privileged to get a peak into the process of painting. Oh, and I hope things work out with the studio mate - blocking the natural light seems like a very mean thing to do!

Angie, I love seeing your painting in process, it is going to be a fantastic piece, and can fully understand why someone put first dibs on it. It would be stunning on a wall of its own.
When I lived in Hamburg Germany I was in a 5 person "kunstgemeinshaft" (art co-op) -before moving in there I thought artists were normally of the open-hearted type but I learned fast. It was one of the most terrifying experiences of my life to experience the territorialism, the petty jealousy, and even worse -- the small mindedness of artists who have no reason to be small minded. I have a small ceramics and painting studio now which is being renovated, only 17 sq.meters but with a nice window and well insulated. If you come visit you can paint and play music as loud as you want.

He is weirder everytime I talk to him. He was in the studio next to mine and we had a nice friendship developing. I chose him knowing that he is very trustworthy but I had no idea that he was so territorial.
Before there was this korean girl that was discreet but she called me on Dec 24 to say she was leaving on Dec 31 and the studio needed work so I was in a bind so chose this guy.

Diana,
I agree that it is a surprise how small minded artists are. I don't understand why they even want to have an atelier where other artists are if they are not willing to share. I have always been generous with my contacts.
The jealousy is brutal. What has happened in the ateliers in the last year is worth writing a book about. I refuse to take sides with anybody so hear everyones stories. It is a soap opera.

I am also really enjoying seeing the process of your painting.
Can you kick the guy out? I am sorry you have to deal with this. It must be very frustrating.
