Behind the Towerwww.behindthetower.comVacation Rentals, Italy, Tuscany Behind the Tower - a slow way to enjoy PisaLocation: Pisa Sleeps: 4
Behind the Tower - a slow way to enjoy PisaBehind the Tower offers a great opportunity to experience life in one of the most famous cities in the world, home to a very popular and prestigious University. The apartment is located right "behind the Tower": the top of the Leaning Tower and the Baptistery are visible from the bedroom windows. Behind the Tower is right in the city centre of Pisa, and it is easily reachable by bus or by walking from the central Train Station. This makes it an ideal location for people wanting to take a short break in Tuscany: several low-cost airlines fly to Pisa for very little money. The apartment is composed of a double bedroom, a bathroom with shower and a fully-equipped kitchen provided with washing-machine. Pisa is a city of incredible beauty. It is very famous for the Piazza dei Miracoli, with the Leaning Tower, the Cathedral, the Baptstery and the Monumental Cemetery. Pisa is much more than that, though. It is a town whose origins date back to the Etruscan era. It was already very lively in the Roman times, and it hosts one of the most important museums dedicated to the maritime activity since those times. 3 Roman ships have been found, perfectly preserved, in the ancient port area and are now the heart of a permanent exhibition at a new museum. Moreover, Pisa has a wonderful Medieval area, the market area, where you can shop at the colourful and noisy fruit and vegetable market in the morning, dine at the restaurants and caffés and enjoy a drink at the many bars and clubs in the evening. Here, students gather after a hard day of study and, given the internationality of the university setting, it is very easy to meet people and make friends. The Lungarni, the streets curling along the river Arno (the same river which passes through Florence) are very beautiful and very interesting for the architecture and the history of the many medieval buildings. Pisa was a powerful Maritime Republic and this wealth and power is reflected in the magnificence of many noble palaces. Many artists chose Pisa as their "creative residence" in the 19th century: Lord Byron and P.B. Shelly spent much time here and many of their famous poems were inspired by the atmosphere of the city. Of great interest are the Royal Palace, the Tower Houses, the many churches such as San Paolo a Ripa d'Arno, Santa Caterina and San Sepolcro (the tradition says that St. Catherine from Siena received the stigmata in Pisa), Giardino Scotto, also called Da Sangallo Forteress, and naturally Piazza dei Cavalieri, with the prestigious Ecole Normale de Pise and the huge Tower Library. Pisa is a very lively University city. There is much to do besides visiting the city centre. There are many clubs and pubs, restaurants and shops. Pisa is also a perfect base for visiting Northern Tuscany. From here you can reach in less than 1 hour some of the most beautiful cities in Tuscany: - Florence - Lucca - Barga and the Garfagnana - Livorno - Carrara - Versilia - Viareggio - Volterra - San Gimignano - The Etruscan Coast - Montecatini - Casciana Terme - Uliveto Terme - Calci - Vico Pisano - Cique Terre and much more. It is an ideal base for people wishing to experience life in a historical town and go to the beach (15 minutes) or to the spas. Close by is also one of the most popular ski-resorts: Abetone, a cool alternative to the summer heat. We will be happy to provide suggestions for your daytrips in the area.
