THE RESIDENCE

Located on a natural lookout (750 metres above sea level) with splendid views over Sellano and the little villages surrounding the green valley below, Residence Vallemela stands in the walled hamlet of Montesanto, which during the 15th Century was an imposing castle on the border between the Duchy of Spoleto and the Dukedome of Camerino.

For those of you wanting to completely get away from it all, Residence Vallemela is as near perfection as you could imagine.

Sellano, the nearest town, is 8 kms away and has all the main amenities: supermarket, butcher, pharmacy, emergency medical services, post office, bank, bar, petrol station, public telephone and bus service.

The nearest restaurant is 12 kms away and, if you fancy a drink or a pizza, there is a pub 9 kms away on the banks of a nice little lake where you can also go fishing in the season.

Valnerina (the River Nera valley) and the Sibilline Mountains National Park are close to the Residence - far away from mass tourism, you can explore the sights and scents and serenity of this very, very special part of Italy.

It is difficult to do justice to Vallemela in a few words - stepping through its imposing iron gates you step into another world.

Also dating back to the 15th century, the house has been recently restore and divided into 3 charming apartments.

The house is divided into three apartments: ARCO, LEVANTE and BELLAVISTA

ARCO (3+1 beds - sq m 42): Ground floor: a roomy kitchen with living/dining room with one full-sized double sofa bed; first floor: one double bedroom, one single bedroom, one bathroom with shower.

Services:gas/electric hob, oven, refrigerator, toaster, satellite TV, hairdryer.

LEVANTE (3+1 beds – sq m 47): Mezzanine: a roomy kitchen with living/dining room with one full-sized double sofa bed; first floor: one double bedroom, one single bedroom, one bathroom with shower.

Services: gas/electric hob, oven, refrigerator, toaster, satellite TV, hairdryer.

BELLAVISTA (2 beds – sq m 26): Studio apartment with kitchenette, living/dining room with one full-sized double sofa bed, one bathroom with shower.

Services: gas/electric hob, refrigerator, toaster, satellite TV, hairdryer.

FACILITIES

There is a shared swimming pool (10 metres x 5 metres), a communal laundry room, a shared gazebo and barbecue surrounded by delightful gardens and breathtaking views.

ENVIRONS

Thanks to the countless historical and gastronomic festivals and folklore shows, we offer numerous possibilities for entertainment, as well as sports such as rafting, trekking or paragliding.

The towns to visit and the folklore shows to discover are many in the area of Norcia and Valnerina:

- NORCIA, small roman town with its attractive medieval churches, famous throuout Italy for its "black truffle" and "prosciutto crudo".

- CASTELLUCCIO, famous for its lentils and its beautiful spring flowering landscapes, ideal place for paragliding

- MOUNT VETTORE and PILATO LAKE, ideal for excursions in the mountains

- FERENTILLO perfect for rock-climbing on exciting equipped rock faces

- VISSO

- VALLO DI NERA, famous for its "Festivallo" in August

- SCHEGGINO, renowned for its superb river fish dishes

- POGGIODOMO with its beautiful church Madonna della Stella

- MONTELEONE DI SPOLETO, famous for one of the world's great archaeological finds: a 6c B.C. Etruscan chariot which now resides at the Metropolitan Museum in New York

- MARMORE WATERFALLS, the highest waterfalls in Europe

- FOLIGNO with ist spectacular "Giostra della Quintana" In June and September and Pasta Festival in October

- PRECI with its live crib at the St. Eutizio Abbey

- SPOLETO: charming roman town with its beautiful cathedral, Roman bridge and amphitheatre and most of all with its Festival of Music and Dance in June/July.

Anyway the main Umbrian towns are worth a day trip too:

Assisi (Calendimaggio in May); Spello (Infiorata del Corpus Domini in June); Perugia (Umbria Jazz in July and Eurochocolate in October); Bevagna (Mercato delle Gaite in June); Todi 50 km (Antiquities Market in April).

Prices include:

Weekly change of bed linens, towels and kitchen linens, utilities (hot water and electricity), heating (Oct-April), swimming pool use (10th May - 27th Sept 2008), wood for outside barbecue, free use of the washing machine, welcome basket with a bottle of extra virgin olive oil from our harvest togeher with many other goodies for your first breakfast at Vallemela.
