Quiet, ecofriendly Agriturismo near Assisi, one apartment and 6 B&B rooms with spectacular views
Our home, "Alla Madonna del Piatto", is a small agriturismo, in the Umbrian hills. The centuries-old farmhouse overlooks the beautiful town of Assisi.
All rooms have a magnificent views of Assisi's world famous basilica, dedicated to St. Francis and housing some of Italy's most important art treasures.
Our agriturismo is a quiet oasis both day and night, an ideal spot to unwind. You will awake every morning to the sights of the rolling Umbrian hills and the medieval town of Assisi perched on the Subasio mountain. You can linger for hours watching the sheep graze in the fields, sunbath on the terracotta-paved terrace or sip a glass of wine under the grapevine arbor.
If on the other hand, you can tear yourself away from the garden and its panorama, our bed and breakfast is conveniently located to explore Umbria's beautiful medieval hill towns. Assisi, Gubbio, Todi, Orvieto, Spoleto and Perugia, as well as Tuscany's splendid Renaissance city Siena, Cortona and the Chianti wine region are all within about an hour’s drive.
If you enjoy walking, the Subasio natural park and the Franciscan Path of Peace and the Park are only minutes away.
The Moraiolo Apartment
If you are looking for a peaceful retreat and the comforts of a real home, the Moraiolo apartment provides a perfect setting for a vacation, a sabbatical or your own art, writing and meditation hideaway.
The six B&B rooms of "Alla Madonna del Piatto" have been renivated with great attention to details, so that each has its own character. Every room is tastefully decorated with wrought-iron beds, antique cabinets and handmade fabrics. The two rooms on the ground floor are in the oldest part of the farmhouse and feature impressive stonewalls and beamed ceilings. The first-floor rooms are light, airy and offer breathtaking views of Assisi’s valley blanketed with meadows, forests and olive groves.
All guestrooms have reading lights, beautifully tiled en-suite bathrooms and radiant heating beneath the terracotta floors. The position of the house high up in the hills (600 mt/1800 ft above sea level) guarantees cool nights even in the height of the summer. The vine-covered patio and terrace are perfect spots for al fresco picnics on summer evenings.
You will enjoy breakfast in the large dining room decorated with colorful ceramics. There is a sitting area with open fireplace and a comprehensive collection of pictures and guidebooks to help you plan your vacation.
For those who don't mind trading a few hours of sightseeing for the opportunity to spend a day in an Italian kitchen, we offer cooking classes in English.
Our B&B and cooking classes have been featured in the Seattle Times, the New York daily news, the Globe and Mail, the Touring Club guide to farmhouse Inns, RickSteves Italy, Special Places to Stay, Lonely Planet and Europe for Visitors. We have several positive reviews not only on the Slowtravel, but also on RickSteves Graffiti, Tripadvisor, Fodor's and Frommer's talk, Hotelchatter and Venere.
As we speak fluently English, French, Dutch and German, we are on hand to help you making the best out of your holiday in our beautiful region Umbria.
