Unique boating holidays on the canals of England

Location: Canals in England and Scotland

English Canal Opportunities

WE ARE READY FOR THE 2013 CANALING SEASON--JOIN US!!   The Olympics are a glorious event of the past--you Englishmen know how to put on a production--thank you!  Now it is time to come to the Midlands for a peaceful English sojourn!  We have had six inquiries already!

It is mid-October 2012!!  We all survived the Scotland trip!!  From Falkirk we headed west to Glasgow--hit heavy winds the first night and I really wondered how it happened!!  We learmed, throughout the trip, that Scotland has beauty, wonderful people and WIND!!  From Glasgow we headed back through Falkirk and up the unique Falkirk Wheel--it was clear that day and we could see for MILES!!  Thrilling and humbling.  The Wheel replaces 11 locks to join the Forth and Clyde to the west and the Union to the east, to Edinburgh.  We encoundered winds in the Edinburgh Quay but were well cared for and protected by our well-laid knots on the dock!  The trip is unique and well worth the time and effort.  Also, we had excellent Guest House accommodation we would gladly pass on.

Two couples did the the Grand Union/Paddington/Regents canal in April, 2012 They were enthusiastic about the experience and came home delighted they had taken the trip.  A father and his three teenagers did a week on the South Oxford canal in June, w/a train trip into Oxford  from Banbury.

2012 has been a busy season. with eleven people experiencing the English canal system for the first time!!  They have, or will, experience an unique holiday aboard narrowboats.  The Scottish trip will have one novice and three 'done it b4s'; the South Oxford novice group were a father and three teenaged daughters; the end of Sept there will be six novices going out of Chirk on the Llangollen canal on the Welsh border.  The Chirk bunch are all over 65!!  I am including a picture of this group, w/Tulsa the Service Dog.  Their story is excellent in pictue form!!

Since the mid 1980's we have traveled aboard narrowboats on the English canals, primarily in the Midlands, and down to London.  Do London aboard a narrowboat--one of our companies has a base in London--I encourage this one, heartily.

We are not travel agents, simply people who feel this wonderful holiday should be experienced by more Americans!

Over seventy people have been introduced to narrowboat canal  travel--people who travel on their own or arrange to travel with us on one of our trips.  Join their ranks and have a super holiday in England!

The top narrowboat hire companies work with us, each offering different incentives to their customers. As an aside, if you feel the locks might be too much, we can help you find a wonderful hotel boat with all the amenities of a first class hotel!

The narrowboats come fully equipped with top grade china, crystal, eating and cooking utensils and equipment. The beds have innerspring mattresses, and all linen, including pillows are provided in the pricing. Narrowboats have at least one bathroom with flush-type toilet, shower, central heat and its own clean, safe water supply.  The engines are small diesel, the steering is done by tiller on the stern deck.

Our top suggestion is a two week trip.  This will allow you to experience a circle trip. A week  is adquate for a good 'out-and-back' trip. Each company offers shorter, 3 or 4 day trips--a 'toe in the water' sort of holiday.

There is no fee for booking your narrowboat through us.  With that booking we will assist you in getting the most out of your time spent on the canal trip--assiting you in finding transport, B&Bs, stocking your larder aboard and other questions you may have on your travel area. I recommend people along the way--none from whom do I get a kick-back--they are reliable people who have helped us and we want to pass their expertise on to our customers.

If you do not book through us, we do charge a nominal hourly fee for our suggestions and information that will augment the standard travel manuals.

The pictures will continue to change, with our return from Scotland.   For now we see an interior of a narrowboat, an always cheerful potted plant aboard for that homey touch and our group out of Chirk on the Welsh border canal of Llangollen who have wonderful tales to tell.
