Le Case Gialle - Apartments on a farm in central Umbria

Welcome to a typical Umbrian farm with views of the medieval towns of Spello, Montefalco and Assisi and the nearby Subasio mountain. The farm is surrounded by our ancient olive groves.

Our apartments were renovated using local materials and decorated individually - each home is unique. The only common characteristic is comfort. For example, the beds are all provided with excellent mattresses. Some apartments have very comfortable sofa beds too. A good holiday starts with a good rest.

When you arrive, you will receive a warm welcome from Silvana Maggioni and Mauro Colonna! The welcome is in English, French, German, Dutch and, of course, Italian!

In your apartment you will find a welcome pack: a small bottle of our organic extra virgin olive oil, a bottle of DOC wine, honey, and a seasonal fruit and vegetables basket. And, all you need for your first breakfast. In every apartment there is coffee, tea, honey from our farm, sugar, salt, pepper, milk, and our jam. Every morning we leave at your door fresh bread cooked in wood oven and a newspaper (English, German, Dutch, Belgium, etc).

Location

We are located in the heart of Umbria, 4 km from Bevagna (a beautiful town with Roman mosaics), 15 km from Spello (a lovely hill town with a church with a fresco by Pinturicchio), 10 km from Montefalco (another lovely hill town with a church with frescoes by Benozzo Gozzoli). Also nearby are Assisi, Perugia, Deruta, Todi, Spoleto. You can visit all of Umbria from this central location and nearby Tuscany.

We are member of La Strada del Sagrantino. The most important wine road in Umbria.

The External Environment

Respect for the environment led us to build a swimming pool in total harmony with the surrounding olive groves in terms of colors and materials. All new trees we planted here are of local origin such as viburnum and strawberry-tree, as well as plants, from laurel to wild roses. A large stone table and a barbecue are at our guests’ disposal. The swimming pool is open from mid April until mid October.

The Organic Farm

At Le Case Gialle, you are surrounded by a completely organic farm. There are three hectares of olive groves that have never met chemical feeding, weed killers, pesticides.

Beside the official certification of AIAB (Italian Association for Organic Agriculture) there is one that is even more authoritative evidence: the presence in the middle of May of fire flies: a charming little fly that lives only where cultivations are practically virgin.

Here and there in the olive groves there are various fruit trees: cherry, peach, pear, apple, walnut, hazel, apricot, blackberry, fig.

In a large area some Suffolk sheep, geese and ducks are pasturing free range. In a smaller area there are Livornese cocks and hens and black local turkeys.

Available Products

We produce organic extra virgin olive oil.

This oil comes from a culture of 90% "moraiolo", with some "leccino" and few "frantoio" (types of olive trees). This gives the oil a fructos aroma and a taste that has the maximum authenticity for this area.

Our olives are picked from the last week of October till November 20th and are rigorously milled with cold traditional mill.

Between the harvest and the mill never pass more than 2 days and we personally take care of all steps.
