Vineyard Cottage (Casa nella Vigna) is set atop a panoramic hillside in the  castle village of San Martino Alfieri. Located midway between the great wine centers of Asti and Alba, just where the Langhe, Roero and Monferrato zones converge. The cottage is very private, with its own enclosed courtyard and garden, yet, only a few minutes walk to the essential points: markets and butcher, bank, trattoria, pizzeria, winery, post.

It is a comfortable base for exploring the beauties of  Northwest Italy. Within a few kilometers, are hundreds of wine cellars, thousands of interesting and ancient towers, castles and sleepy villages. Within an hour, the cosmopolitan centers  of Turin, Milan, the Ligurian coast and the Alpine resorts. There are endless local festivals, cultural events, and many sporting possibilites to enjoy. As well, as the profound tranquility and spectacular view of the backyard hammock.

The cottage was once a barn. In 1998, we built a completely new house inside its old brick shell. There are two floors plus a 40sq mt, loft area (which can accommodate additional beds). Upstairs: Two bedrooms, one  bath with shower/tub. Ground floor: a half bath, living, dining, kitchen/pantry areas, which open onto a shady patio and herb garden. Beyond the garden, there are 4000sq mt of orchard, vineyard, and field. Furnishings are comfortable and traditional Piemontese style. Linens, kitchen appliances and cooking utensils, TV with satelite dish (English language), washer, phone line, library of books in English (including an extensive collection of local guides and information), kids videos and outdoor toys,  garden furniture, BBQ, are all in place. Fast internet connection via ADSL modem is available.

We built the cottage to accommodate our international family and friends. To give them a taste of  the true Italian village life. Our friends began to send their friends; and now, we extend the hospitality to others who are curious about our area, and the way of life we enjoy here. We live nearby, and will gladly help you to settle in with suggestions, and introductions—if you ask us to (in English, French, Spanish or Portugese, and basic German).
