Casa Nido is perched at the highest, most panoramic point in Villa San Secondo d' Asti. The village, one of the prettiest in the Monferrato region of Piemonte, is located 12km from Asti in a zone rich in history, rural beauty, fine wines, and, truffles.

We call the cottage "Il Nido", meaning The Nest, because it is small, snug and commands a spectacular “bird’s eye” view over hundreds of kilometers of countryside—hills of vineyards, valleys of sunflowers, castles, towers and church spires all backed by the shadow of the Alps. In the accompanying photo of our village, the Nido Cottage is at the top of the hill, just to the right of the church nave. This same hill was the site of a fortress castle, destroyed in 1304 in a war between Ghibellines and Guelfs. Many of the bricks in the Nido's thick walls were salvaged from the castle ruins. Our little village provides an excellent market/butcher shop, post office/bank, and town hall. All other services are two kilometers away in the 11thC market town of Montechiaro. Turin, Milan, the Mediterranean coast, and the Alpine resorts are about one hours drive. The calendar here is full of gastronomic events, wine competitions, opera and jazz concerts, and inumerable village festivals. The hills are full of trails for biking and walks, and other sporting centers are nearby. There is opportunity, both to join in the local life and to enjoy privacy and peace.

We bought the cottage several years ago to accomodate visiting family and friends. so we have completely renovated it. The plumbing, wiring and heat have all been renewed and the appliances are modern. There are two floors, and an ancient vaulted wine cellar. The ground floor: kitchen with fireplace, new bathroom and laundry. Upstairs: bedroom with queen size bed, and sitting room with single sofa bed. The furnishings are comfortable, in classic Piemontese style. Included: Linens, kitchen essentials, TV with BBC decoder,  phone line with ADSL modem available. We live nearby, and are available to help (if asked) with introductions and suggestions.
