BIENVENUE – “WELCOME” - to the beautiful Mas de la Bousquette - an idyllic place to stay at any time of year.
We invite you to experience the serenity and sense of timelessness of this magnificent Provençal mas, where we offer a refuge from the stresses of modern life in our 3 lovely gites. Set in 8 acres of gorgeous gardens and meadows below a historic medieval hill village, its unique tranquillity will charm you from the moment you step inside its spectacular inner courtyard garden.

We are only 15 minutes from medieval Uzès in Provence Gard, close to Avignon, Nîmes, the Pont du Gard, the Camargue and beaches of the Mediterranean, in the foothills of the mountains of the Ardèche and Cévennes. Surrounded by the olive trees, sunflowers, poppies and lavender of Provence, and in the midst of totally unspoilt, beautiful wilderness, this hidden gem is the perfect place to stay while discovering all that this blissfully unspoilt part of southern France has to offer.
With year-round golden sunshine, crystal clear air, spectacular sunsets and stargazing nights, the timeless surroundings of this magical place will leave you with unforgettable memories.
Our Philosophy - Life in the Slow Lane
Here you can experience life at a slower pace – we guarantee you will enjoy it! Take off your watch and socks; stow your phone and computer and just enjoy the calm. Go for walks, borrow a bike, enjoy the pool, play games, read a book – just “be” in this lovely place.
For more than five centuries – and with earlier, probably Roman roots – the mas has nestled at the foot of the medieval village of Lussan, perched high on its stone crag.
Over the centuries “new” buildings have been added – barns, silk farm, granary- surrounding a fascinating internal courtyard with its Roman-tiled roof-scape and worn stone steps. Today, with the soothing sound of running water, that courtyard garden is a haven of peace and tranquillity – a cool place to sit on a hot summer’s day.
There are lots of quiet spots just to “be”, everywhere the sound of water. Discover our wildlife – walls, ponds, skies and meadows are a nature heaven. Or enjoy our large heated swimming pool set within its own safe walled garden – depending on weather, we swim from late March to late October.
The gardens are a delight for the senses – walkways covered with wisteria, roses and clematis; a walled pool garden full of Mediterranean and exotic sub-tropical plants; an ornamental pond, alive with colourful koi carp; banks of lavender, rosemary, cistus and oleander
Filled with the scent of jasmine, roses and honeysuckle, the sound of running water, singing ciccadas and nightingales, with swallows swooping and eagles soaring overhead, the gardens offer the perfect place for celebrating a marriage. Why not spend a romantic week in one of our gites for that never-to-be-forgotten honeymoon.
With extensive potager where year-round vegetables and fruit are gathered, an enchanting herb garden, orchard of Mediterranean fruit trees and a flock of British rare breed hens, much of our food for our kitchen comes from our own gardens. Our land has been chemical free for 12 years, making all we produce truly organic.
A Gourmet Provencal Supper to Welcome You . We invite our guests to join us for our now-famous welcome supper - in a relaxed and informal setting. Sample the abundance of wonderful produce this area is famous for – much of it grown in our own organic gardens –accompanied by the scents and sounds of Provence.
Newly-created from the ancient sheep barn, our gite la Bergerie is able to welcome guests with limited mobility or those who find steps difficult. On the ground floor with its own garden, easy access from car to apartment and with wide doorways to accommodate a wheelchair, this gîte is spacious and furnished with a modern twist on a Provençal theme.
Your Comfort our Priority
To ensure your stay meets all your hopes for your precious holiday, our spacious gîtes are equipped to the highest standard to ensure your comfort, and you will want for nothing. Beds, pillows and linen are the best, so a good night’s sleep lulled by our resident nightingales is certain. It is our aim to make our guests feel at home and relaxed so they can’t wait to come back again.
Each gîte has its own private terrace or garden where you can take enjoy a leisurely breakfast or sip something cool on a summer’s evening. Guests can enjoy our heated pool from March to October.
You will find a “welcome” basket of essentials in your gite when you arrive. Guests arriving late can request a light supper to await their arrival for a small additional charge.
This part of Provence is at its loveliest out of season, with an abundance of pure clear air and light. Even in winter the sun continues to shine from a sparkling blue sky most of the time. If you are looking for somewhere inspirational to take time out to write, to paint or just “be”, come and visit us for an extended stay between October and the end of May and become part of the real Provençal way of life.
Our 3 gites:
Created from the old granary, LE GRENIER rooms face south over the pool garden, the meadow and over the unspoilt garrigue beyond.
LE MURIER (sleeps 2/4; 6 with Chambre d’Olivier)
A one-bedroom apartment of tremendous charm, created where silk worms spun their magic long ago. Within the north-west tower and with unique views of the village of Lussan. Comfortable sofa bed in the living room makes it suitable for a couple and two children. Perfect for honeymoons.
Additional accommodation is available in le Chambre d’Olivier – just a couple of steps down from the private terrace leading from le Mûrier bedroom.
CHAMBRE D’OLIVIER Part of the farmhouse, but completely self-contained with independent access from the courtyard, our b & b room Chambre d’Olivier is furnished to the same high standard as the gîtes with superbly comfortable queen size bed, ceiling fan for the hotter months,
LA BERGERIE (sleeps 2/4. Accessible, no steps)
Converted from the sheep barn, this very bright and spacious apartment has typical Provençal vaulting throughout. Furnished with style, it offers luxurious living and has been designed so that people with limited mobility can enjoy a high standard of accommodation so often denied them. We are proud to be able to extend our hospitality to guests of all abilities.
Specially-designed pathways from car park to apartment make it completely accessible for wheelchairs, with wide doorways, a large walk-in shower, discreet grab rails in the bathroom and plenty of space to move around.
EATING There are a couple of reasonable restaurants and cafes in the village – a 5 minute walk, masses more within a few minutes in the car.
If you want a bit more convenience or for something truly spectacular, Pippa will happily cook delicious suppers for you or prepare a picnic lunch to enjoy “al fresco”.
We bake bread and pastries every morning – guests can order before they go to bed. Growing much of our own food – fruit, vegetables, herbs, eggs, home-made preserves – our table d’hôte and welcome suppers have become one of our great attractions using only the freshest produce.
After spending 17 days in France eating at various restaurants and cafes in Paris and around the Gard we are pleased to announce that with a PERFECT score of 10 for food and 10 for ambience our Wednesday Table d’hôte was the unanimous winner. Congratulations and many thanks. Mick & Marilyn Underwood, Hawthorn, South Australia
LEARN TO COOK We run special cookery days for adults and children. Adults from beginners to serious cooks can enjoy a day learning the secrets of the healthy Provencal way with food. Courses to suit everyone. Let Pippa have your children for a whole or half day, go out and do grown-up things and come back to lunch/supper cooked and served by your children.
ECO AND GREEN While providing the highest quality accommodation and thoughtful touches we do so with care and consideration for the local area and the environment.
This is a totally bio (organic) place. Since we moved here no chemicals of any kind have touched our land, so our eggs, fruit, preserves, vegetables and produce are all completely organic. Our hens are fed only organic food and are at liberty to wander where they like, eating wild herbs from the meadow and keeping us free of garden pests. Their eggs are amazing! We provide dressing gowns and sheets made from organic cotton; hand-made toiletries from a small “atelier” in the next village; wherever possible we use produce from our own gardens, or local produce from local suppliers.
Good quality bikes for all ages encourage guests to leave the car behind while exploring the richness of this area.
FAMILIES The mas is perfect for families, children of all ages are welcome and we provide cots and all baby and child equipment. Toys, children’s books and games are available, the pool is safely enclosed and there is a playpen to keep small ones safe. Older children will love playing with our two friendly dogs and children of all ages are welcome to collect eggs and assist with our flock of rare breed chickens. Babysitting is available to give parents a much-needed break. A highlight for kids is the half or one day cookery course that Pippa offers.
