Sleeps: 3 Gites - sleep 2, 2+2 children and 4+2 children
BIENVENUE to the beautiful Mas de la Bousquette, an ancient Provençal mas at the foot of one of the ‘Plus Beaux Villages de France’.
3 lovely gîtes, awarded 5 stars by the French Tourist Authority, have been created from the old farm buildings and silk magnanerie, retaining many of the original features while incorporating all the up to date comforts you might need to make for a memorable and relaxing holiday.
Set in 8 acres of gorgeous gardens and meadows below Lussan, an historic mediaeval hill village, its unique tranquility will charm you from the moment you step inside its spectacular Roman-style inner courtyard.
We are only 15 minutes from medieval Uzès, close to Avignon, Nîmes, the Pont du Gard, the Camargue and beaches of the Mediterranean, in the foothills of the mountains of the Ardèche and Cévennes. Surrounded by the olive trees, sunflowers, poppies and lavender of Provence, and in the midst of totally unspoiled wilderness, this hidden gem is the perfect place to stay while discovering all that this lovely region has to offer.
Our Philosophy Here you can experience life at a slower pace; we guarantee you will enjoy it!
Even the most committed outdoor enthusiast will appreciate the peace and calm of the mas and its gardens. After a busy day hiking, biking, swimming or shopping there’s nothing better than to retreat to the garden, take a dip in the pool, sit back, admire the views, enjoy the wildlife, savour a glass of wine and look forward to the evening’s barbecue.
The courtyard makes a cool haven on hot days, while the gardens are a delight for the senses – walkways covered with wisteria, roses and clematis; a walled pool garden full of Mediterranean and exotic sub-tropical plants; an ornamental pond, alive with colourful koi carp; banks of lavender, rosemary, cistus and oleander.
We are embarking on a project to restore the old potager to provide year-round organic vegetables and fruit for guests. Our flock of British rare breed hens, also reared organically, provide eggs for your breakfast.
You are invited to join us for an informal and fun supper à la Provençal on your first weekend, a good chance to meet other guests and find out more about the area. Wherever possible we serve organic local, seasonal produce only.
To ensure your stay meets all your hopes for your precious holiday, our spacious gîtes are equipped to the highest standard to ensure your comfort, and you will want for nothing. Beds, pillows and linen are the best, so a good night’s sleep is assured.
Each gîte has its own private terrace or garden where you can take enjoy a leisurely breakfast or sip something cool on a summer’s evening. Guests can enjoy our heated pool from March to October.
You will find a “welcome” basket of essentials in your gîte when you arrive. Guests arriving late can request a light supper to await their arrival for a small additional charge.
Our 3 gites:
LE GRENIER (sleeps 4+2 children on sofabed)
Created from the old granary, rooms face south over the pool garden and the meadow to the unspoiled garrigue beyond.
LE MURIER (sleeps 2 )
A one-bedroom apartment of tremendous charm, created where silk worms spun their magic long ago. Within the north-west tower and with unique views of the village of Lussan. Comfortable sofa bed in the living room makes it suitable for a couple and two children. Perfect for honeymoons.
LA BERGERIE (sleeps 2 + 2 children on sofa bed Accessible, no steps)
Converted from the sheep barn, this very bright and spacious apartment has typical Provençal vaulting throughout. Furnished with style, it offers luxurious living and has been designed so that people with limited mobility can enjoy a high standard of accommodation so often denied them. We are proud to be able to extend our hospitality to guests of all abilities.
Easy access from car park to apartment makes it suitable for wheelchairs, with wide doorways, a large walk-in shower, discreet grab rails in the bathroom and plenty of space to move around.
EATING There are a couple of reasonable restaurants and cafes in the village – a 5 minute walk, masses more within a few minutes in the car.
We bake bread and pastries every morning – guests can order before they go to bed. Out little ‘shop’ stocks homemade preserves and sauces, a few essentials, a selection of wines, beers and soft drinks and frozen home cooked meals for that rare evening when you can’t even face the barbecue!
ECO AND GREEN While providing the highest quality accommodation and thoughtful touches we do so with care and consideration for the local area and the environment.
No chemicals have been used on the land for many years, so our eggs, fruit and preserves are all environmentally friendly. Our hens are fed only organic food and are at liberty to wander where they like, eating wild herbs from the meadow and keeping us free of garden pests. Their eggs are amazing! We provide dressing gowns and sheets made from organic cotton; hand-made toiletries from a small “atelier” in the next village; wherever possible we use produce from our own gardens, or local produce from local suppliers.
FAMILIES The mas is perfect for families, children of all ages are welcome and we provide cots and all baby and child equipment. Toys, children’s books and games are available, the pool is safely enclosed and there is a playpen to keep small ones safe. Older children will love playing with our two friendly dogs.
Good quality bikes for all ages encourage guests to leave the car behind while exploring the richness of this area.
