Il Poggiolo in Tuscany: TWO spacious holiday accommodations on a private villa property, in historic buildings with gardens managed by the resident owners (both Renaissance historians).
1) The "Casa Colonica" (2 br & 1 bath - sleeps 4+1) is an independent, semi-detached accomodation in the main villa, on two floors. Upstairs there are two bedrooms and one large bathroom with tub/shower. Downstairs is a live-in kitchen, a sitting room and a living/dining room. Outside is a large garden area with table and chairs, as well as benches to admire the view of the Valdarno valley, the Appennine mountains, and breathtaking sunsets.
2) The "Fienile" (3 br & 2 bath - sleeps 6+1) is an independent, converted barn on two floors. Upstairs there are two bedrooms and a bathroom with shower; downstairs there is a third bedroom/study and a second bathroom with shower. The main floor also hosts the kitchen, a sitting room and a gorgeous enclosed veranda - a peaceful place to read, write, or have an apéiritf! Outside there are two garden areas with tables, benches, and chairs to admire the views over two different valleys. A medieval tower caps the south-west panorama.
Both units were thoroughly renovated in 2006 and carefully decorated with antiques and original art. Both have fully equipped kitchens with granite counter tops and solid wood cabinetry, microwave, electric oven, 5-range gas burner stove, dishwasher and fridge/freezer, washing machine, clothes drying rack, iron & ironing board. There is also Sat TV and DVD, Wi-Fi Internet, guide books, a recreational reading library for all ages, children's games, and on-site parking.
LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION: Guests appreciate the fact that Il Poggiolo is located equidistant from Florence, Siena, and Arezzo (30-45 minutes drive). While a car is necessary for your stay, Florence can be reached by train from Montevarchi in just 35 minutes. Pisa and Florence airports are 90 minutes drive. Nearby are historic sites, picturesque villages, national parks, thermal baths, and seaside beaches. Swimming nearby in local pools (10-15 minutes drive). Excellent wine and fine restaurants in the area, as well as informal village trattorie. Wonderful weekly markets for local produce and specialty foods. Several designer outlets in area.
