Adventures in Italywww.AdventuresInItaly.netTrip Planning, Italy, Art Workshops Combine cultural immersion with creative workshopsLocation: Orvieto, Italy
Italy.
Just the mention of the word seems enough to start the magic. This
country, so filled with beauty, so inhabited by passionate people, so
based in earthly rhythms has so very much to teach us. Enjoy the pleasures of small town Italian life, while developing your creative potential with Adventures in Italy. Join the quintessential Italian hilltop experience with the pursuit of a creative passion for an unforgettable week in Umbria's Orvieto.
With Adventures in Italy, curious, adventuresome, lifelong students learn about Italy's culture and passion for artful living and creative expression all at once. Most intriguingly, you learn about Italy through creative expression. Workshop exercises provide a lens through which to see and experience Italy.
Days are a mix of very local cultural experiences and studio time in which to interpret, record, visualize, and capture daily experiences. Some days, studio work takes place within the larger local environment. Every workshop involves cultural experiences designed to complement the course.
Our teachers are artists, but they are teachers first. Regardless of skill level, everyone learns. Teachers care about you the student being free to express your own creativity without rules. As gifted artists and skilled technicians, our teachers know how to share their talent. Beginner and expert alike are welcome.
Trips are designed to live as much like a local as possible, savoring and enjoying life in Italy. You will stay in Orvieto for the week to get to know it, its people, and its environs. Meals are not prearranged, providing you choice about where and what to eat, exploring the foods and wines that interest you. Guidance on local food and customs and wine is given, but the choices are yours. One evening you will work with a local chef to cook your own meal.
Accommodations for the week are in a renovated, comfortable, hundreds years old former palace, now a bed and breakfast, run by 3 charming, welcoming nuns. Each room has its own, full bath. It is truly a home, providing the very real opportunity to enjoy a taste of Italian life.
All of this takes place in Orvieto, a medieval city built atop an Etruscan network of caves. The population on “the rock” is about 6500 - a cozy, intimate small town. Its history dates to 800 BC, the Etruscan roots strongly influencing the city's life. It has what is, arguably, the best Gothic cathedral in Italy. Orvieto is flat, with meandering Medieval streets of cobblestone. It sits atop a volcanic plug of rock 700 feet above the valley floor, and is reached by funicular. It is impossible to get lost. Orvieto and its environs is known for its olive oil and wine, and for its superb cuisine – all of which are introduced to you through a variety of adventures.
