Villa Auris is a 18th-century palazzo in the heart of Ostuni which has preserved the charme of ancient mansions. Now on the second (top) floor of Villa Auris a lovely studio apartment is also available for a couple of people. The studio is stylishly furnished and has an ensuite bathroom tiled with Bisazza glass mosaic. It has a quality, comfortable sofa-bed and with its "a vela" vaults it is very cozy. Ostuni, also known as the White City because of its whitewashed houses, sits high on the Mount of Ostuni, on the southern end of the Murgie hills, looking out to the near Adriatic Sea. The city still preserves its medieval citadel, with narrow streets and typical architecture, and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding olive-tree countryside and sea. Ostuni developed during the XVIII and XIX centuries at the basis of the medieval citadel, when wonderful palazzi were built in the Greek Revival and Neo-Renaissance styles, like our Villa Auris. Ostuni is located in the Southern region of Alto Salento in Apulia (the Heel of Italy), in an area famous for its wilderness and still uncontaminated wildlife, with villages characterized by Baroque and Romanic churches and palazzi. Ostuni is not far from the famous, medieval Castel del Monte, and Alberobello, the two UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Apulia.
The weather is generally very sunny and warm, mitigated someway by coastal winds, and you can expect gorgeous days from April to October included. Temperatures are in the range of 20-35°C in summer and 15-25°C in springtime and fall.
You can find loads of fine entertainment, restaurants and stylish bars in the old town of Ostuni, worthy of cities such as Milan, New York or London. Try Riccardo, Jipas or La Sommitą and you will come back. Shops open until the early hours of the morning in summer. Good selection of shops in the new town. Huge market on Saturdays. Antiques market on the 2nd Sunday of every month around Villa Comunale.
There are several lovely beaches around Ostuni, from sandy Pilone, to rocky Costa Merlata, and a stunning beach at Torre Guaceto, a WWF protected area. If you want to drive a little farther, you can encounter fabulous sandy beaches on the Ionian Coast, all usually within half an hour's drive.
