The Professor's Home is located just outside Roatto d'Asti, a little village in the heart of Lower Monferrato, Piedmont, Italy. It was our family house for over a century; now we rent it out as temporary residence to guests looking for a viable and cheap alternative to hotels and B&B. The house can accommodate up to twelve people in 2100 sq ft, and we rent it for two-four weeks. A very good butcher's shop with minimarket is at walking distance and all services (supermarket, railway station, two banks, and so on) are 3 miles from the house.

Its central geographical position makes it a great starting point for half-a-day and one-day excursions as well as for longer trips: Asti, Alba and Turin are close by, Genoa and Milan are easily reached by road or by rail (1.5  to 2 hrs.); Florence, Venice, Rome, Cinque Terre are a bit further away and you can visit one of them in two days. The 2006 Turin Olimpic Games sky trails and sky slopes are little over an hour away by car.

Those wishing to take a deeper plunge into the real country life can take part in the seasonal activities, such as fruit picking,  grape and hazelnut harvest, wine-making, or help tend to the vegetable garden. Kids, too, can have a wonderful time at the house: they can play inside and outside with many toys, the sandbox, the twin swing, and have fun in the above-ground swimming pool we set up during the good season. Moreover we provide free Internet access with a WiFi ADSL router covering the whole house and a PC with printer.

The Professor's Home was built on top of a hill by our great grandfather between 1890 and 1920; it is a traditional Piedmontese farmhouse, which was refurbished and modernized over the years without overlooking the distinctive traits of country life: the hayloft, the big shed for the tools at the back, the large pavement for agricoltural work at the front. The Professor's House is surrounded by a partially fenced 2.4 acres private property.

The thick brick walls keep the house cool even in the hottest summers, making air conditioning unnecessary; during the winter we use central heating and two fireplaces, one in the kitchen and one in the living room, finally you can use the wood-burning stove for heating as well as for cooking. 

The house rests on a large cellar, that hosts our tiny wine production; many rooms are large, each of them measuring about 300 sq ft, with vintage furniture and windows screens. 

Downstairs there is the living room, whose floor dates from the early twentieth century, with a fireplace and a vaulted ceiling featuring floral decorations; the kitchen , with a wood-burning stove and another fireplace; there is also the access area to the bathroom, where the washing machine stands. The TV set with satellite dish and decoder is in the kitchen; it comes complete with a DVD/DivX player and a cassette recorder.

Upstairs there are a second bathroom and four bedrooms, two facing south and two facing north. Each of them sleeps two to four people.
