We are Steven Brenner and Linda Martinez, an American couple who moved to Rome in 1999 to follow a kooky dream of opening a hotel. Shortly after we opened the doors of our hotel, The Beehive, we began to find ourselves with more demand than we had rooms. To those for whom we didn't have availability, we often offered unsolicited suggestions, taking it upon ourselves to help.  At around the same time, we had property owners approach us asking if we could send them guests. However, we were particular about the places we recommended so we only suggested places that we felt offered the best quality at a reasonable price. Thus was born the idea for our on-line accommodation agency, cross-pollinate, the name of which was originally an inside joke by a good friend that simply stuck.

The properties we represent are not hotels, but are guesthouses, B&B's and private apartments, the kind of accommodation which become an extension of the tastes and particularities of the host. They are an ideal option for the independent, intrepid, experienced traveler, or the sort of person who wants to immerse themselves in the "foreignness" of the place they are visiting - the language, the culture - and experience what life is really like for the people who live in the city they are visiting. We believe the result is a richer experience on their travels, taking them out of an antiseptic, universal, standardized comfort zone and instead experiencing and appreciating the differences of the way people live in other parts of the world.

We avoid the look and feel of large impersonal booking portals.  Instead, we have personally chosen properties suitable for a variety of budgets and good value for the price, location, and how much they reflect the 'true experience' of each city. Many of these properties choose to work only with us because of our professionalism, efficiency, availability and readiness to solve problems, if any occur, between guests and owners. Therefore, many of our properties would be impossible to reserve without us. Our online system is thus the best of two worlds - it is technologically advanced, permitting our reservations to be quick and efficient, and yet there are real people behind the scenes to make sure everything is clearly and thoroughly explained and handled.
