In the heart of Umbria, near the beautiful ancient city of Perugia, at 10 km in the direction of Città della Pieve, Villa Aureli stands like a jewel in a peaceful and hilly countryside, where lines of pine and cypress trees mark the horizon.

Two large apartments in the main residence, and two smaller charming apartments in the dependence. Large garden, privacy and peace in the center of Umbria. Wonderful views on the hilly countryside, antique furniture.

We are surrounded by all the beautiful towns and villages of central Italy to, rich in art, architecture and wonderful food. The ancient center of Perugia can be easily reached with a new panoramic flyover minimetro.

The Villa dates back to the middle of the 18th century, when a Perugian nobleman, the count Sperello Aureli, transformed a 16th century tower into his country residence, adorning it with frescoes, prints, stuccowork and furniture, that can still be admired today. Among the many wonders of the Villa are the ceramic floors, designed room by room according with the decorations of the walls and ceilings, and made in Vietri, near Naples, the bright first floor gallery, the elegant ornamental walls of the garden and the quatrefoil-shaped fountain facing the orangerie, where the sixty large orange and lemon pots of the garden are sheltered during the winter.

The present owner, the Count Sperello di Serego Alighieri, is an astrophysicist working at the Arcetri astrophysical observatory in Florence. Following a tradition of hospitality started by his father Leonardo and his sister Flavia, he offers two apartments in the Villa and two in the adjacent charming house of the former faithful gardener, Adolfo Guelfi, who saved all the precious funiture of the the villa during World War II.

The guests may enjoy the rare atmosphere of the house and the privacy of the large terrace garden "all'italiana" and have a chance of visiting the wonders of the Villa accompanied by the owners.

Each apartment has a separate entrance with parking.

5 mins walk to the village of Castel del Piano with shops, post office, bank and bars. There are very good restaurants within a 5 min drive.

On demand, we'll be happy to serve meals prepared with the products of our farm, following the local recepies, accompanied by our red and white wine and by the limoncello made out of the garden lemons.

The guests of all the apartments have free access to the swimming pool (12x4), made out the ancient water cistern of the vegetable garden, situated in a fenced and very sunny area. The Internet point is under an old linden tree in the main courtyard: it is actually an Internet tree! The little dog Pepe looks after the guests, and the cats Cactus and Cocò are often around in the garden. Our sheeps and chickens have a peaceful life in the fields next to the swimming pool.

The Villa and the environment preservation.

At Villa Aureli we try to preserve the environment and to offer our guests a stay consistent with the ecosystem. When the villa and the garden were made some centuries ago, there where no electricity nor gas, and chemical fertilizers did not exist. Both were therefore built in order to minimize energy needs. The thick walls isolate the rooms from cold in winter and from heat in summer. The water pipes collecting rain from the roofs and leading it to the orangerie, to the fountain and to the water tank of the vegetable garden used to collect water for the garden without energy consumption. Modern life needs extra energy, so we provided to install a system of photovoltaic solar panels that covers the needs of all the apartments, including air-conditioning in Adolfo’s House, where the walls are not as thick as in the Villa. We offer our guests meals prepared using the natural products of our farm, following the traditions of Umbrian cookery.

The Villa

First floor apartment  

The first floor apartment in the Villa (5-6 persons) has original 18th century furniture and decorations. Its large drawing room has an open fireplace, a piano and a beautiful view on the garden. Independent access from the garden via an ancient tower. Accommodations: double bedroom with ensuite bathroom, twin bedroom, second bathroom, bed in the studio and sofa-bed in the drawing room, dining room, fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, washing machine. 

Second floor apartment

The second floor apartment in the Villa (4 or 8 persons) is large and bright apartment (200 sqm), has original 18th century furniture and decorations, four balconies and many windows overlooking the garden. Rare sets of ancient prints decorate the drawing room and the gallery. The main stairway of the villa provides independent access from the garden. Standard accomodations (4 guests): large drawing room, double bedroom, twin bedroom, dining room, fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine, large bathroom, ground floor WC. Enlarged version (8 guests): on demand, two more adjacent double bedrooms and one bathroom can be added to the apartment. Central heating. 

Note: by simply unlocking a door, the first and second floor apartments can be joined, and the main villa can be rented as a whole for large groups of friends.

 

The House of Adolfo.

During World War II Villa Aureli was used as headquarters by the German and then by the allied troops. Adolfo Guelfi was the faithful gardner who saved all the furniture and precious objects contained in the villa by walling them up in a large room. The House, built in XVIII century, is adjacent to the orangerie; it has been recently restored respecting the original features. It has air-co and modern facilities, and original furniture from the villa. Direct access to the garden and to the swimming pool, and private spaces for open-air dining.

Adolfo West apartment

This apartment (120 sqm, 5 guests) has an indepent entrance from Adolfo's courtyard via an external staircase. On the ground floor, it features a living room with kitchen and dining space. The kitchen has a microwave oven, a fridge with freezer and a dishwasher. The living room has a flat-screen TV with home theater for DVDs, audio CDs and MP3 CDs. On the first floor there is a wide bedroom with king-size bed, fireplace, and an additional sofa-bed; this room has a private bathroom with tub/shower and hair-dryer. On the second floor there is another bedroom with king-size bed, a private bathroom with shower and hair-dryer, and a beautiful view on the garden.

Adolfo East apartment

This apartment (80 sqm, 4 guests) has an independent entrance via the eastern facade and an external staircase, and is located on the first floor. It has a kitchen/living room with flat-screen TV and DVD player

The kitchen has a microwave oven, a fridge with smaal freezer, and a dishwasher. The double bedroom has a king-size bed and the other room has two beds, which can be joined if necessary. Both bedrooms are served by a bathroom with tub/shower and hair dryer.

Note: by unlocking a door the two apartments in Adolfo's House can be joyned and host a large group of friends.

Booking notes
Weekly prices include: wireless internet connection, towels, swimming pool towels, sheets, final and weekly (for long stays) cleaning. Baby chair and bed available for free. Extra maid service available and not included. Pets very welcome. Heating not included.
A 30% deposit is required at the booking. It can be paid by credit card (only VISA or MasterCard) or by bank transfer. The balance is to be paid upon arrival in cash or by credt card (only VISA or MasterCard).
