A Tuscan Village HouseVacation Rentals, Italy, Tuscany Coming soon spring 2010 - A jewel-box restoration in a Tuscan hilltownLocation: Trequanda, southeast of Siena Sleeps: 12 +
This is just an early announcement of the 2010 availability of a lovely ancient house, a private home, in a vibrant little hilltown in the heart of Tuscan wine country. Two years of careful restoration and remodeling are almost done, yielding a gourmet kitchen and working pantry, entertaining areas inside and out and 6 bedrooms, all with attached baths. 6 fireplaces lovingly crafted.
Trequanda is a small village, two and 1/2 hours north of Rome, 45 minutes southeast of Siena, 1 1/2 hours south of Florence, just 25 minutes off the A - 1 autostrada. Oh, and 4 1/2 hours from the deck of a vaporetto on the Grand Canal.! This is a region known for its art, architecture, history and artisan cheeses, honey, pasta, spring and fall truffles..... Chianti, brunello and vino nobile all within a half hour drive through our beautiful countryside.
Trequanda is a historic hilltown with an active little piazza, a castle, a cafe, ATM, newsstand, pharmacy, meat market, grocery, bakery, restaurants from pizza to elegant terrace dining. Trequanda is famous for its olive oil, wine and Chianina beef. And all the other necessities of living in a small village. 12 km from the nearest train station in Sinalunga. Or, for dining out, 15 family-owned restaurants will serve you within a 5 mile radius - everything from wood-baked pizza to sophisticated Euro-cuisine.
After many years of visiting the area, we finally purchased a dream house in a lovely village! The two-year-long renovation and restoration is almost complete. Furniture will be installed, art hung and the garden planted all to make this lovely house welcoming for our family beginning in late spring 2010.
The house has 6 bedrooms all with attached baths, each with its own washing machine!! The house is made up of three parts, the main house and two private suites. The main house is 4 bedrooms with baths (2 with fireplaces) + sitting room with fireplace, main kitchen, pantry, dining room, living room with fireplace, 1/2 bath, pool bar. The garden-level suite is 1 bedroom with bath + sitting room, kitchen and a small terrace overlooking the countryside view and the garden. The precious "City house" (so-named because of its stone stairway right down to the city lane, below) is 1 bedroom with 3/4 bath + sitting room, kitchen and 1/2 bath. It has a balcony overlooking the village street and a private bit of terrace looking out to the panoramic view of the Tuscan countryside.
Each sitting room has a comfortable sofa bed and fireplace. All combine directly, Italian-style, to create a magical cluster of unique settings for enjoyment and fun. But still provide privacy for individual families and couples. The house is available in its entirety, as a single rental, 6 bedrooms; perfect for family vacations and reunions, groups of friends or a wedding or other celebration.
The main house was built along the inside of the Trequanda city wall in the 13th century. In the 17th century an addition was made OUTSIDE the city wall creating covered loggia spaces and open terraces for all the upper rooms of the house and the sitting room of the City house. Stairs connect the loggia to the garden, too. Fascinating testimonial to the evolution of Tuscan villages.
The main house kitchen was designed by a serious cook and includes slab counters, separate working pantry, wood-fired grill, two dishwashers and all in the cool, ancient wine rooms looking into the village streets. (Underfloor heating for cooler seasons.) Adjoining dining and living room both flow through ancient arches in the old city wall to the terraces and garden on the sunny side. The little kitchens in the City house and in the garden suite were designed as if I were living there.....
The large, sunny terrace also has ample shady space for dining al fresco. Pool, original grape vines, fruit and olive trees, vegetable and herb gardens all combine to create an ideal Tuscan experience.
Authentic furniture, oriental carpets and art will be set off by the natural stone walls and natural calce plasterwork. Authentic handmade terra cotta tile floors throughout. A fine balance between ancient, antique and comfortable.
Music systems, solar hot water, rain water harvesting and other modern touches also enhance the house. The house has all the modern conveniences, though we are still arguing about internet. Local chefs, cooking lessons, massage, horseback riding, hot air ballooning, quad biking, painting lessons, classical music concert series, walking tours, wine tastings, all are easy to plan, and we are pleased to help you.
So if you are contemplating a Tuscan holiday and have realized that renting a commodious house with family and friends is the most economical way to really relax and enjoy the food, culture and wine, contact us now to have a good choice of weeks. The house is called La Casa dei Fiordalisi, in honor of the 4 fleur di lis in the ancient coat of arms over the door.
The website is a work in progress. Photos of the village, house floor plans.... www.ifiordalisi.com Professional photography will take place in April, as we move in for our first stay! Or you can reach us, by this address: info@ifiordalisi.com
We look forward to hearing from you and sharing La Casa dei Fiordalisi and helping you create a memorable Tuscan experience. We have 10 years of experience in the area, so we are happy to answer questions and help with planning.
