Plein Air Painting in Italy

Location: Northern Italy

Experience the Arts Sojourn difference - We're more than just an art workshop! Join us for great vacations in some of Italy's most spectacular locations.

Now in our twelfth year, Arts Sojourn has grown out of our love of Italy, plein air painting, the joy of vacationing with old friends, and the pleasure of meeting new ones. The Sojourn is neither a guided tour nor a traditional artists' workshop. Our goal is to create the most pleasurable and affordable vacation possible for our creative travel companions and ourselves. Our Sojourns are impeccably planned, but we intentionally keep the dynamics of both the painting workshop and group loose to afford participants as much freedom as possible. Our goal is to help you to experience Italy first hand – as a Slow Traveler, not through the window of a tour bus.

Our flexible structure never fails to attract a diverse group of adventurous travelers and artists of all levels; forming a dynamic that we believe is unique among art/travel groups. There is no competition and no need to conform. You will be part of a relaxed community that shares a common interest. Some participants make painting a priority, some paint occasionally, and some not at all.  Our director, Matthew Daub, is a nationally-respected artist and university professor with works in many prestigious collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He is your resource, and is happy to provide you with advice and instruction, however the emphasis of an Arts Sojourn is always on painting for pleasure. We meet as a group nearly every evening to discuss our work and travels.

To keep things interesting we vary our Arts Sojourn locations; Tuscany, Umbria, the Italian Riviera, the northern lakes.....always chosen for their scenic beauty, cultural significance, and lively ambiance. Our carefully selected luxury hotels are nearly always right in the historic center of town, affording guests easy access to great local cafes, gelaterias, restaurants and shops.

Does the prospect of experiencing Italy accompanied by interesting, creative people sound enticing to you? If so, we invite you to join us on our next Sojourn!
