a luxurious vacation home with terraces and POOL right INSIDE the encircling walls of an historic village WITH PANORAMIC VIEWS! Not your average farmhouse miles from town, or a small village apartment with a tiny balcony. We have a huge 940 square meters beautifully restored 13th century glass works built in the medieval walls of Piegaro, Umbria. In the middle of everything you want to see: on the border of Tuscany (next to Citta della Pieve), near Cortona, Lago Trasimeno, Panicale and Perugia. A car is recommended to tour all the sights!

We have lovingly and beautifully restored this huge ancient glass works, L'Antica Vetreria, into a large villa and four apartments on three levels of the ancient walls with complete privacy for each unit. It is very rare to find such a property within a medieval village with terraces and a pool and private road from the village piazza.

The Villa has five bedrooms with five baths ensuite/walk-in showers and hand crafted armadios, panorammic views; one bedroom is in the top of the 9th century tower. Two story soaring ceiling with chandeliers in the living and dining area with panoramic view. Comfortable couches and hand crafted dining table with 11th century benches to seat 14. Beautiful antique furniture pieces and antique folio prints on walls. Upstairs library with balcony overlooking the living/dining area has leather couches, fireplace, piano, TV with DVD, large bookcases filled with fiction, art history, travel guides. Library table for your laptops. WiFi!

La Cantina has 2 bedrooms (one king and one twin) has two storeys: ground floor on village street level with kitchen, dining and living room, two glassed french doors opening to balconey and terrace overlooking pool and countryside
upstairs 2 bedrooms and shared spacious bath with panoramic views from all rooms including the bath!

il Forno Uno has 2 spacious bedrooms, shared large bath, spacious living room with restored 15th century glass oven, dining and kitchen, private terrace right beside the pool and wonderful panoramic views from living, dining and kitchen.

il Forno Due has 1 lovely bedroom with panoramic view, living room with beautiful antique fireplace, gourmet kitchen with cooking island, another panoramic view from dining room and extra large bathroom; this is our "honeymoon" suite! We have had several celebreties stay here.

La Terrazza has 2 extra spacious bedrooms w/ensuite baths, large grass terrace with views, one level below the pool; it is the most ancient with 9th century barrel-vault ceilings, arrow slit windows and meter thick stone walls, lovely living room with glass french doors to terrace, separate dining room and large kitchen.

A rare gem, our luxury vacation property had its beginnings in the 9th century. It was once the first glass works built into the 9th century walls and defensive tower by master artisans who came to Umbria from Venice around 1292. We have faithfully restored all its unique features including the ancient glass ovens, tower spiral stairway, and many arches, stone niches and ancient kitchen fireplaces.

Our romantic village is in the middle of everything! On the border of Tuscany and a few km from the Auto Strada, you can easily take day trips to see most of the hill towns of Tuscany and all of Umbria. You can be in Cortona of "Under the Tuscan Sun" fame in forty minutes. Florence is an hour away and Rome in under two hours. Chiusi train station is 15 minutes away for trains to Rome, Florence, Milan. Dine on fresh fish from Lago Trasimeno. See all the sights and return home to a glass of fabulous Umbrian wine and take a swim in the pool!

Living within a medieval village is experiencing Italian life at its best; what we call "la dolce vita". Just steps from our villa and apartments, one can savor a morning cappuccino or have an afternoon gelato while lazing in the sun in the piazza or around our swimming pool with panoramic view. There is no need to drive for miles to a restaurant or shops, for all you need is within its walls. Stroll the medieval cobblestone streets to the news agent, pharmacy, two caffes for snacks, drinks and gelato, florist, bakery, butcher, wine shop or the two grocers to plan your evening meal. Book an Umbrian chef to cook a feast or give you a cooking lesson. Or dine at a gourmet restaurant in the small piazza beside our villa with special menu and discounts for our guests. Down the hill is another wonderful restaurant with such fare as black truffle pasta, wild mushrooms freshly gathered or cinghalie sauce.

At every turn and twist in the little stone streets one glimpses ancient doorways, a palazzo, a well and stairways leading to 13th century apartments with the daily wash swaying in the breeze. Savor the quiet of a nature walk in the serene Parco Rocolo just under L'Antica Vetreria and dig through a mountain of blue and green glass shards from 750 years of glass making for a historical souvenir. Our villagers are very welcoming to our guests from over 16 countries!

The history of our surrounding countryside is romantic and enchanting. St. Francis once strolled through our village on his way to found one of his first convents in nearby Cibottola where he lived for awhile. Hannibal defeated the Romans near our Lago Transimeno.

Her adopted family, the Mencarelli's, are also on hand to give cooking lessons, provide gourmet catering, lead fishing expeditions and provide a warm Umbrian welcome to our guests!
