Marignane: Etap Hotel Marseille aéroport Marignane

Marseille Airport, Phone: 892680954

Budget hotel at the Marseille airport. Tiny room, but can sleep three. Free airport shuttle.

Our family of three has stayed twice at this chain hotel located at the Marseille airport. Etap is owned by Accor Hotels, which owns Motel 6 in the USA. This is the most economical choice of the hotels located right at the airport, and its rooms do sleep three people. (It can be difficult to find rooms in chain French hotels that sleep three people.) We've stayed here the night before an early-morning flight when we just needed a place to sleep.

This is the smallest hotel room I've ever stayed in. We estimate the room is 9 ft x 12 feet, which includes the little bathroom in one corner. There is a double bed with a single bunk bed up above, reached by a ladder. When you put your luggage in the room, there is very little floor space left. There is a tv and you can purchase time on wireless internet. The tiny bathroom has a shower, sink and toilet. When you turn around in the shower, you will likely turn the water off. But it's clean and a place to sleep for a couple of hours.

We paid €53.90 for our family of three - the equivalent of $83.17 in late March 2008. (In contrast, the airport Best Western - which we prefer - offers a 76.50 advance purchase internet rate, but the last time we stayed there, a rollaway wasn't available and our daughter slept on the floor. The Ibis - also an Accor hotel - is a notch up and cheaper than the Best Western, but its rooms only sleep two.)

The Etap has breakfast at an additional cost. We've preferred to take the free shuttle to the airport and have our final coffee and croissant after we've checked in and are through security. On our last visit we walked over to the Ibis hotel for dinner and had an enjoyable last meal in friendly surroundings.

I can recommend this hotel if you are looking for a low cost option the night before an early morning flight and don't mind sleeping in a very small, spartan room. Be sure to bring your own alarm clock.
