15th ARR: Hilton Hotel Paris

18 Avenue de Suffren, Phone: 33.1.44385600

Reviewed by: chiaro di luna from Canada, review #1163

When: August 2005

A fantastic view of the Eiffel Tower, but quite a distance from the rest of the sites we wanted to see. Occasional indifferent service.

We were welcomed at the Paris Hilton by the valet and doormen and went to check in. There was a little confusion on the hotel's part about the price so I showed them the booking confirmation that I had printed out. They had a lower price than my confirmation so I took it! I think it was all an error in their leaving out the taxes, though.

Anyway, disappointment hit as we entered the room. There was no air conditioning and the room was looking on to some other inside rooms. Off we went to the reception to upgrade for an extra 40 per night to a balcony room with a fantastic view of the Eiffel Tower. This was worth it! It was room 713 and the air conditioning worked. The price was now 200 per night, including the taxes.

The room had 2 twin beds (there were no king bedrooms available), a mini bar (controlled, so you could not put your own drinks in), a desk, 2 chairs in the room but none on the balcony, a tv, and a nice bathroom with amenities.

A large buffet breakfast was included for 2 adults with the price of the room. It was excellent. The hotel has 2 restaurants, a bar, a small shop and a branch of Hermes. The best thing about this hotel for us was the price. It was a bit of a walk to the sights and tourist bus we used, but not very far from Rue Cler with many shops, food markets and restaurants. The view of the Eiffel Tower lit up at night was incredible.

This hotel needs some sprucing up in my opinion, but I have to say we were satisfied with the reception and breakfast personnel. The clerk behind the tour desk ignored us the 2 times we waited for our turn to speak to him, so we eventually walked away. We had tried to pre-arrange a taxi the evening before through the hotel but they told us there would be a line up of taxis waiting there. There were no taxis at 7:30 am when we needed one to take us to Gare Nord!
