Comfortable hotel in historic center of Lyon. {3 stars}

3-star hotel on Place des Celestins facing the imposing theatre of that name.

We had reserved a standard room but found it too small and dreary, with only one small window facing an air shaft ("narrow corridor" per the reservation). We upgraded to a highly satisfactory room with comfortable bed (two twins pushed together) and good clean furnishings.

Our large windows faced the theater and had a view of the delightful Place des Celestins where we could watch the ebb and flow of neighborhood activity. Light sleepers may find the brightly illuminated theater a problem, but blackout curtains are provided. Price is 115 euros per night, with a 10 per cent reduction for Friday and Saturday nights.

Location was perfect for us; with a neighborhood feel but near the Place Bellecour for Tourist Information, metro, and numerous other services. The fantastic daily market is less than a block away.

Hotel staff was pleasant and efficient. Someone was available at 5 am on our departure day to make sure our taxi arrived as requested. Breakfast is available, but we preferred the nearby caffes.
