Great location, acceptable room, skip the half-board dinner. Okay for one night arrival/departure. {2 stars}

We chose this hotel for its location and the potential of an easy arrival dinner our first night in France. We took the TGV from CDG directly to Avignon and wanted a restful place for one night before The Luberon Experience.

The location is superb, just steps from the old papal palace and at one end of the main tourist street of Avignon. Ideal to stretch our legs after all that tiresome travel.

The welcome at reception was efficient and friendly. The lobby was a bit frayed, and the light in the lift was not working and was not repaired in the 20 hours or so of our stay.

The room was small and somewhat drab but functional. Our view was overlooking the glass ceiling of the hotel/restaurant atrium. For 75 euros/night, I would say overall the room was okay.

Our biggest disappointment was the dinner. A friend had spoken glowingly of the restaurant - and the web site, of course, made the place seem very appealing. We like a no-stress first dinner, so signed up for the 35 euros/person half board, which included a basic continental breakfast and the 3-course meal in the Le Lutrin restaurant. The food was uninspired and had an institutional feel. Service was perfunctory. No feeling whatsoever of graciousness.

Next time, I would search for a good online rate at another hotel but would consider this one for its location. I would definitely skip the half board.
